Canelo is GGG's biggest test. The kid has great ring experience and his power is bonafide. Accurate shots neutralize an enemy, and GGG has massive ring experience. However for the many amateur bouts GGG has... I doubt he came across with the skillset like Canelo. The pros are different. If it's slugfest I don't see GGG surviving the later rounds. The real reason that people pick Golovkin over Canelo is because in their eyes, Canelo is a tainted fighter who has already been tainted by a loss to Floyd, the most hated boxer ever.

To pick Canelo over Golovkin would mean indirectly picking Floyd (who beat Canelo) over Golovkin, and that is unacceptable and unthinkable to these people who view Golovkin as the last hope, the only one who was never tainted by Floyd.

Realistically, Canelo vs Golovkin could go either way, and in another year or two Canelo should even have the advantage. By destroying Geale, Cotto proved how weak Golovkin's opponents have been, and Canelo ate Cotto's shots like candy.

See If Canelo would have been as vocal and confident about setting this fight up talking about moving to 160 and so on then I think you have a point.

However we've not heard Canelo talk much since the post fight interview at that time he sounded very confident as he should be but who knows Canelo has sparred with this guy he will know first hand what GGG brings to the table and how dangerous he is.

He is physically bigger no matter how much people want to say they are the same 170, they are not. Canelo has more fat. Golovkin has more muscle. Eventually Canelo will be a legit, full size 160lb but he is not yet. A fight vs a real sized MW will let us see what Canelo is really about at MW.
