Comments Thread For: DiBella: Network Issues Linger For Golovkin-Jacobs

Lou DiBella won’t completely rule out the possibility of a bout between middleweights Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs, but he also knows there are many reasons why that fight might not happen.

“I think anything’s possible in the future. There are issues with allegiances to networks and contractual obligations to networks,” DiBella said at the post-fight press conference after Jacobs knocked out Peter Quillin on Dec. 5. DiBella is one of multiple promoters involved with shows featuring boxers signed with adviser Al Haymon. [Click Here To Read More]

The fights not big enough for either company to want to make it happen.

If Lee wins, I don't see why DiBella would let either Lee or Jacobs fight GGG before fighting each other.

Then my guess is he would put the winner of Lee/Jacobs in with Canelo before GGG.

Dibella went from being his own man who had a pretty big promotional company to being a puppet who puts on events for Haymon.

Dibella might be the biggest hypocrite in the sport.

Jacobs has no contractual ties to any networks, if he wants to go to hbo to fight GGG, he can do it. And after his recent ratings, They should be happy to get away from PBC/Showtime.

Yup Jacobs drew only 8k in attendance in NY filled less then half the arena he fought in when he is a local NY fighter. GGG just sold out MSG in NY about 20K in attendance. GGG does over 1mil in tv ratings every time on HBO while showtime's card on sat did like 270K viewers and the main event with Jacobs peaked at 386K. Basically a 1/3rd the audience of GGG but Haymon will kill the fight by pricing Jacobs out of the fight. Asking for almost as much as GGG is making despite not having the fanbase even in NY as GGG.

Lee is different then Jacobs he is not a Haymon signed fighter. Lee can fight anyone on any network. If he chooses to fight Jacobs it will be because HBO isn't trying to make that fight with GGG/Canelo or because he doesn't think Lee can win the fight. But it won't be because Haymon says no. Lou has no say in what Jacobs or any of the Haymon fighters do despite him being the flunky promoter for those fights. He is Haymon's lap dog nothing more.

Jacobs vs. Lee is a good fight that makes sense. My guess is it happens next. Probably on SHO.

Dude, you feeling threatened by Haymon and PBC is very weird. If you like boxing, why would you care what channel the fight is on?

DOes seeing the HBO truck, Corona girls, Lampley and Lederman really make that muc of a difference to you?

If you have seen Lee's recent interviews, I seriously doubt he takes a fight with Jacobs. He has pretty much said that he has only a few fights left in him and he wants them to be big fights. Like Canelo/GGG type big. In fact he flat out said in an IFLTV interview during the Lee/Saunders press tour that he wants GGG next should he get by BJS. Should Lee win and the Canelo fight not happen for GGG, I fully expect GGG vs. Lee to come off in the first half of next year, unless Canelo scoops him up, but Lee is never making 155 in a million years.

This interview was post fight and before the WBA said they would consider a calling a mandatory. This is why I hope the WBA calls for a mandatory. Jacobs can fight the winner of Saunders/Lee. GGG can fight Johnson and then Jacobs while he waits on Canelo in September. But of course this makes to much sense for boxing.
