The former three division world champion Abner Mares wants to fight for the WBC featherweight championship, which is in the firm southpaw grasp of Gary Russell (26-1, 15KOs).

Mares held the title before getting stopped by Jhonny Gonzalez in the first round of their 2013 bout. Russell knocked out Gonzalez earlier this year in four rounds to capture the belt.

But I highly doubt we'd get Leo VS GRJ next so this fight is better than seeing Russel fight another TBA again.

That's not how PBC operates. Mares vs Gonzales and Russell Jr. Vs the guy cuellar just beat. Gonzales knocks mares out again and then mares gets the Russell fight. Meanwhile Leo Santa duck goes back to fighting cab drivers, janitors, and gardeners for,the next 2 years.
