    Are you kidding?

He was ready to fight Froch all of this year, up until Froch finally said he is retired.

That was a fight GGG's team tried to put together for some time, it wasnt Froch looking for it.

      • GGG weights 170 at fight night.

He won't fight at 172 I am telling you guys...

He wants all the belts at 160 and may be then he will move up to 168.

        But 172? NO!

Pursuing Froch never closed him off to other opponents, never. So what are you talking about?

Seems like lots of bitter people, annoyed that someone is stealing thunder from their fav or from some black.

All these idiotic meaningless anti GGG arguments.

you are correct, fighting Froch or Chavez wouldn't prevent him from moving back down for unification.

some of GGG's diehard fans argued it was unfair to go up to 168 to fight Ward then have to come down and fight for the 160lb title because the weight loss would adversely affect him.

If this is the case, wouldn't the same apply for Chavez and Froch?

Can you see how posters would have an issue?

No, the same would not apply to Ward, for many reasons.

First off, Ward was is not a big fight. GGG said he moves up for a big fight. Ward does not qualify, why would he?

Ward was not even a fighter at the time, he was entangled in legal troubles due to voluntarily deciding to sue his promoter instead of fight.

A lot of time has passed since potential Froch and Chavez fights. Since then, GGG has become a legit star, with an HBO contract. It would be ****** and downright bizarre for GGG to movie up to fight Ward.

When has a fighter moved from his natural comfortable weight class, to fight someone without a belt who is also not popular or a draw? Never. It wouldn't make sense in any manner for GGG to move for Ward of all people.

He stepped aside in March to let Cotto fight Geale (June) and Canelo (November) and preserved his mandatory spot. Froch announced his retirement in June. There was PLENTY of time to make a fight with Froch in the summer/fall 2015 without it having any impact on his unification fight, which as we can see, would not happen until Spring 2016 at the earliest.

                  His choices were
                  1) maybe fight Froch, get a vacant belt, get no money.
                  2) maybe fight Froch, get Vacant belt or a fight with a popular fighter, and get money.

Froch had absolutely no impact on that decision.

And btw - it was Froch who was also looking for the fight. As a response to Golovkin's interest in big names, Froch posted a picture of himself with caption 'too big, too strong for Golovkin'. Golovkin's team said 'prove it', Carl said 'I don't have the fire, i'm retiring'.

And in regards to Chavez, when the fight was discussed with Chavez, Golovkin had absolutely no prospects of unification.

So again, to go back to the main point - please show me proof of Golovkin taking, or considering to take, a fight INSTEAD of a unification.

You kind of dodged the question. Please answer.

Long before Ward went out HBO had Lampley downplay the fight on air (with Ward right next to him) and on the fight game show. You can't just leave that out.

Ward wouldn't have been as big a fight as Froch or Chavez money wise, but surely it would have been a more prestigious win and would be bigger than the MW fights he took while waiting for unification (which frankly neither cotto nor Canelo are likely to give him).

It just isn't a good look when you are willing to fight some at 168 but the best at 164. No different than people giving Floyd crap about fighting ODH and Cotto at 154 but Canelo at 152.

If your primary goal is to unify, why are you spending time looking for fights at 168? Sure you can come back down, but it automatically delays what your stated goal is.

For example, when you are mandatory for a title and ask to be paid step aside money, its usually because you want next. GGG couldnt get those mandatory spots if he was fighting at 168. They wouldnt allow it.
