This comes down to simple economics. Canelo is at the top of the food chain. The WBC and HBO, GGG's biggest backers, get more financially from Canelo than GGG. Canelo is also positioned to be the next Vegas "house fighter".

I just do not see how GGG, coming off a PPV that was between 97k-150k (and GBP will know the real number when they are negotiating) has any leverage to get Canelo to move off 155.

Maybe PBP is right and its 157 or so. But I am sure it will not be 160.
It'll be interesting to see how the new regime at HBO reacts to this. There's a short list of opponents for both guys. GGG will probably fight Johnson next and then probably the winner of Lee/Saunders Canelo probably fights Lemieux next. That's probably why Lemieux's manager turned down the fight on the undercard of Kovalev/Pascal II. Then who does he fight next? If he goes back down to 154 he's surrounded by Haymon guys. I guess Curtis Stevens is a possibility at MW. I don't see HBO paying for all these showcase fights and I don't see the public paying for PPV showcase fights. HBO has the p4p fighters but the problem is only one of them is a draw but all of them want to be paid like p4p fighters but HBO doesn't have the budget to do so. They have to open up other platforms and make their money thru ad revenue. Canelo on TNT would bring in 4 million viewers easily. They also have a TNT Latin. They've opened up TruTV. I don't understand the reluctance to do so with TNT.

The floyd fight would have given him about 10-20 millions at least. Will the fight against Canelo give hiim that?

Also, if GGG lost to floyd at 154, it wouldn't mean anything to his legacy since people knows that he's a 160 fighter and he would still remain the MW champion.

But if he loses against Canelo at 155 he loses all his MW titles and loses recognition.

So no, the situation is not the same.

But you can't claim drainage before, especially if you agreed with GGG and his team that yes, he could make 154.

Your issue isn't with me, its with the honesty and integrity of GGG and his team.
Why do you think Canelo wants it at 155 if not to drain him and get an advantage? Making 154 for Floyd is irrelevant cause Floyd is smaller and worth more money and is not for a 160 belt. Seriously, why do you he wants 155? Shouldn't he want him at his best and at the mandated weight for the division?

          Whose going to look worse???

GGG saying no and fighting Tuerneo Jackson on HBO

          Or

Canelo who said he tried and fights Thurman, Bradley, or Cotto rematch on PPV. ALL those guys want Canelo and ALL are Top 20 P4P.

i don't see GGG losing to canelo, not even at 155 lbs that's why i think he should accept. canelo didn't look espectacular vs a beat up cotto.

All this wont matter in a couple of weeks when Canelo gets stripped and GGG becomes champ anyway. Then Canelo's camp will say GG was afraid to fight them.

HBO seems willing to do Canelo v Bradley. Think about that for a second. That is an absolute abomination given all the fighters from 154-160 Canelo could fight.

HBO is losing Manny and lost Floyd. They will NOT lose Canelo, especially after getting him back from SHowtime.

Its really just simple economics as I see it.

Cotto got at LEAST $10million! After PPV's and such he'll get an additional $10-20million.

So yes. GGG could/would get $10million. How could he not??? Unless GGG agrees to a 95-5 split. Or his promoter keeps all his $$$$$

He'll still remain the Caneloweight champion of the world.

Seriously though, why hasn't anyone called him out on insisting on 155? It's not just a CW. It's Canelo literally saying "I want to always have an advantage". He'll either fight guys his size who are drained or fight guys who are smaller than him.
