This has honestly left me puzzled as to how canelo could win that fight. If anyone has got a legitimate idea of how he'd beat ggg (which doesn't involve "oh,canelo has a better resume though") I'd really like to hear it and discuss it.
Canelo has fast hands and knows how to throw combinations. And GGG doesn't like fast combinations. Also the fight will be not at 160, so the power and pressure of GGG can decrease in the catchweight.

      • This is what is going to determine whether Canelo can beat him or not. IF Canelo can earn the respect of GGG with his power early on, it's a fight.

GGG has literally walked through everyone he's ever faced. He can be hit, if Canelo can hurt him early and gain that respect, he changes the dynamic of the fight and gives himself a much better chance as the fight goes on.

        • The easiest route to victory for Canelo imo is to just wait. GGG isn't getting any younger and if he can avoid him for a couple of years or so and continue along his own path, he can probably beat him by attrition.

Outside of that, while I definitely would see Golovkin as the favourite, I don't think that it is entirely impossible that Canelo could beat him in 2016. I think he may have to box the perfect fight and hurt Golovkin in order to do that, but given his experience with the caliber of fighter that he's been in against, maybe he's ready to do that now. Golovkin isn't the fastest guy in the world and he can be mechanical and predictable and not too hard to find. If Canelo boxes in-and-out and keeps his defense solid for 12 rounds, I can see him outhustling Golovkin for a decision.

          • Giving this a little bump.

            • I think he could beat him with paid refs/judges and GGG has a bad day, maybe gets injured in the first round or the fight gets stopped very early because of a DQ or Cut.

              • I fully believe he can win the fight.

There's plenty of great things about GGG, but we haven't seen it against top level guys and that will be interesting. We've also seen him get hit clean fairly often.

Difficult fight? Of course it is, but when you have great timing, excellent counter punching, very good upper body movement and physical strength, a big puncher who comes forward plays to many of your strengths.

Canelo uses A-side status to drain GGG to 155 and adds a stipulation to the contract that GGG must fight with his shoelaces tied together.

                  • There's always the chance GGG lands a stiff jab, popping that herpe blister on Canelo's lip, shooting the puss into GGG eyes rendering him blind, allowing Canelo to unleash a flurry of left hooks and KO ing GGG... Other than that, he has no shot.

A big puncher who comes forward is David Lemieux. Unfortunately, the big puncher we're talking about comes forward with all the skills you claim Canelo has plus an iron chin, great footwork, and an awesome jab. I'm not discounting Canelo, but you're underrating Golovkin's skills. I think they won't disappear at all vs. top level comp. In fact, I think you'll see more of them. Let's hope we get to find out.
