What a load of bull****. This is what boxing has come down to. This is why we don't end up with epic trilogies anymore. Marinate is a euphemism for kick the can down the road. Anything can happen in the meantime (look at Paul Williams).
What happened to fighters fighting each other in their primes?! Maybe Canelo v GGG is a war. That would sell the rematch, and then a third fight could be massive. Corporations influence so much now (music, sports, film, food, etc...) and you have to look hard to find an inspired, genuine product.

When posters see GGG and his team make an effort to work toward the money fights but not the challenging fights, he is going to get criticism, especially since most of GGG's diehard fans were the most vocal critics of this type of career planning when other fighters did it.
SO why you as a GGG fan make it seem like what GGG and his team did was fine and no big deal, others see GGG and his team as the reason the Ward/GGG fight wasn't made and are calling him on it.
What is wrong with that?
No matter how many times you say it, it doesnt get any less false. You always seem to ignore one of the most important points, which is the TIMELINE.
At the time GGG was looking at 168 fights with Chavez or Froch, it was because the 160 unifications he wanted were not available. At that time, Ward was not available either, due to injuries and promotional problems.
Fast forward to this year, and the unifications ARE available, so GGG is not looking at 168 options, including Ward, who technically isnt even available anyways as his offer was to fight "sometime next year"
So honestly, when timeline and context are factored in, I see no BS with what K2 or GGG has done.
If there was ONE thing I could acknowledge, its that they didnt aggressively go after Lara instead of taking Monroe. Now we can all agree that it probably would have been a pointless effort, considering the economics (100k for monroe vs 1mil+ for lara) and the obvious HBO/Haymon issues, but it wouldnt have hurt to try. And who knows, maybe they did reach out. But Loeffler didnt address it very well if they did.Last edited by OnePunch; 11-23-2015, 01:11 PM.

You be honest about the timeline. HBO had Lampley downplay the fight before Ward stopped fighting. Before Cotto came in and beat Sergio after he avoided GGG. Then with the 164 talk, its hard to not find fault with K2 and GGG.
The unifications are not available One Punch. If you listened to ODH, you realize the Canelo fight is not likely. Added to this, Canelo can pay more than GGG so he is more likely to get the unifications than GGG is. AT least be honest about this.
Bottom line is ward is moving on to Kov and so should we. but there are going to be people who hold GGG and his team responsible for the Ward fight not happening based on all the facts.

And sorry to bust your bubble, but unifications ARE available. He just did one with Lemieux, and he has the option of forcing Canelo's hand and making him either fight or hand over the belt in the next 15 days. That only leaves the Lee-Saunders winner out there, and if Lee wins I believe GGG-Lee could be made quite easily. Lee had signed for it once before, so no reason to think he wouldnt do it again.
And the people that hold GGG "responsible" for the Ward fight not happening obviously have another agenda. Any objective person can look at the facts, the timeline, and whats going on now and realize that GGG-Ward was never a viable fight at this moment, and Wards team asking GGG to abandon his position for the title Canelo just won, was a non-starter.
(and yes, the deal Ward offered would have meant that GGG would have lost his mandatory spot to the cotto-canelo winner, as well as being stripped of the IBF belt he just won from Lemieux. The deal was a non-starter)Last edited by OnePunch; 11-23-2015, 01:50 PM.

If that makes me a "fanatic", then so be it.
and fyi, trying to compare mandatory defenses within a single division to hypothetical matchups between fighters 2 divisions apart makes a person look like an idiot.
