  • Cotto Should Pay His Dues..

I posted a similar opinion in another thread:
    _________________________________
Cotto should pay the step-aside fees if he had agreed to. He should not try to stiff another boxer, period. He's making more money than he ever thought he would need.

As far as the WBC goes, he should at least send them that $125k check, belt or not. He used the WBC belt to good effect: getting the lion's share of the purse and other advantages (can include gloves, ring size, drug testing, weight stipulations, who enters the ring first, side advantage in fight posters, and a lot more.).

I'm not saying the above is solely because of the WBC belt (I don't give a **** about belts or their organizations), but I have no doubt that it somehow enhanced his position at the negotiating table. Cotto is a veteran and popular on his own too.

All I can say is: Man up, Cotto. Karma can be a *****!

    War Canelo!

    What's your opinion?

[I don't have a dog in this triangular affair of fighters. The only boxer I really like here because of his fighting style is Canelo. He has special effects. Fun to watch him display his skills and guts, before he gasses!]

Saturday will be fun. I don't really care who wins.

I haven't looked into the fine print on this but on the forum the opinions have pretty much been down the party lines. People who side with Canelo or ggg are bashing Cotto. I'm curious if there's any unbiased opinions on this.

Yeah but he agreed to compensate ggg to be allowed to fight Nelo at which point he used the bc title to get a nice paycheck. If he refuses to pay the wbc i honestly don't care but compensate the man you avoided and have first handedly held his career to a stand point do some time

The agreement that Cotto made with Golovkin and G2 is contingent upon the fact that Cotto would be defending the WBC 160-pound belt against Alvarez. Since he is not going to defend the belt after being stripped, he does not owe Golovkin anything.

The sanctioning fee is ridiculous, whether it is $300,000 or $125,000. What the WBC is doing is the equivalent of extortion. No one should pay $300,000 for the right to a title designation that can be taken away at any time after the fight and after the fee has been paid by the designating body.

I don't think there are many unbiased opinions right now. Passions running high and all. To me, it's boxing, I'm more curious about what Canelo will do than Cotto. It will be a great fight. I think Canelo takes this one in a violent fight, within the distance.

          Who you got?

I don't think he should pay the WBC anything and I'm sure Golovkin would like an extra 800k for laying around his house watching the fight, but it was all based on a belt that he doesn't have anymore, so I don't care if he pays him either. He probably only has a few more fights left, if that, so he should definitely save as much money as he possibly can.

            I got Canelo!

Yea, my initial reaction is "fk the sanctioning bodies!" and am happy to see someone sick it to them. However, if he genuinely broke a contract, he should pay. I haven't seen anyone prove that's the case though.

As for the fight, it's all on Cotto, IMO. I think he should have retired 2 years ago. He's far past prime and will likely lose. However, Canelo has lapses that create holes and Cotto is really good at capitalizing on things like that. Expecting Canelo over 12 (if not tko in late rounds) but I wouldn't be surprised to see it go either way.

Not if he agreed to it. I don't know the details.

I don't see any reason for him to, since he isn't defending the title. The moment he was stripped, Golovkin should've been elevated to full champion. He needs to take it up with the WBC.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Cotto wins. He has both the skills and experience. But Cotto kinda looks worn out these days. I don't like how Canelo was looking in photos either. He looked sick.

I still expect a good fight!
