Well they stripped him so he no longer needs to pay step a side right. If a Contract exists I'm sure it was voided when WBC stripped him. This won't hold up in court.

Espn: Golovkin To Sue Cotto

I'm sure the money "owed" by Cotto was hinged on him KEEPING the WBC title.
What better way to secure a fight you're desperate for than to sue your potential opponent? The stuff of genius, I tell ya.

Cotto-Canelo never needed the WBC title. People are assuming that it was NEEDED for this to be as big of a fight as it was. Cotto is the LINEAL champion, either way, so what does the WBC belt matter? Despite all the assuming that's going on right now, the truth of this matter will simply be in the contract. If the contract is based upon the title being at stake for both men, then Cotto may not have to pay. If it merely states that Cotto has to pay, then Cotto might be obliged to do so. Does anyone think it'll help Golovkin to go to court for this? Especially considering that the WBC pretty much set this up themselves? Golovkin was the champion of other organizations, and they, out of nowhere, set him up as the mandatory. It'll only make him look complicit. Heck, I don't even think the WBC would want this. It may prompt investigations into their dealings.
All of this, in my opinion, is just an attempt by the WBC to get Cotto to be quiet about what they do. They're trying to stop him from revealing more about what happened, perhaps using GGG to do so. It could backfire on them. Like I said, I don't think they would welcome investigations. Nevertheless, they thought they'd be able to make Cotto look bad with their press release, and that clearly backfired.

paying a mandatory to step aside for a much bigger fight to happen is not out of the norm.
A fraud is deliberate deception to secure unfair or unlawful gain.
thats what cotto did with him avoiding ggg by promising him step aside money and not paying up.
Crying about money LIke a girl pathetic

and according to WBC's own words.....
if the title becomes vacant they are supposed to upgrade GGG to full champion.
What happened with that???
