That's not really the point tho. I know they treated it as a unification the point is how do u unify with a title thats for ranked contenders? They can treat it as whatever they want to give it prestige but all it is is a belt noting the #1 contender in the division. It shouldn't even exist. And it clearly does not even mean anything because since they stripped cotto as per their own rules once again. Golovkin should be elevated. Instwas they are giving Canelo, once again a non ranked fighter, a chance to fight for a belt against someone who's not a champion. Dude. It makes zero sense. U can twist, turn, squiggle, the WBC is at fault here.

The title isn't just for ranked contenders. The highest ranked contenders can be made mandatory for it (either interim or full title), but as the quote earlier said, circumstances can arise where an elite contender, other champion etc can be made mandatory for the said title.

I'm not sure about the Canelo scenario, this has never happened before. But i've not been arguing over that, I was picking up on the point that a certain poster had claimed the WBC broke their rules when installing Golovkin as tha mandatory despite being the WBA champion. That's wrong, and the WBC haven't broken any rules there.
