Good it's what boxing needs, it was needed 20 years ago, 10 years ago.. When did they suddenly make that rule? I don't mind the rule of everyone of the organisation is in on it and they made it clear... Great, but not when an organisation have been paid off to do this, this looked like a paid off job.

This is why they ranked Kovalev #1 for Stevenson's WBC title (that didn't work out because HBO essentially put a gun to Kathy Duva's head and said no because they didn't want Haymon outbidding them with his massive war chest of cash and putting the fight on PBC).

They then made Golovkin the mando for the Cotto-Canelo winner. Cotto would've paid the 3% of his guaranteed purse regardless of who he fought (that's the $300K -- he's guaranteed $10 million from this fight).

But in order to have this fight with Canelo, he had to pay off Golovkin (the mandatory) to the tune of $800K!

Then Cotto started doing the math and said, "****! Another $300K? Avoiding this Kazakh basta*d is costing me a lot of money! And I'm not even going to fight him even if I win, so screw it, we'll drop the belt and I'll settle out of court with K2 for half"

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE (and ALL FIGHT FANS SHOULD LOVE) that the WBC under Mauricio is trying to use its power to create fights that fans want to see.

At least if fighters want to avoid other fighters, it forces them to either (1) fight the guy they want to avoid (2) pay a fortune for the privilege of ducking that guy, or (3) drop the title and reveals them as the shameful ducker they truly are.

People want Kovalev-Stevenson and they want to see the winner of Canelo-Cotto fight GGG. And the WBC under Mauricio seems like they're trying to deliver those kinds of fights.

People keep saying this but why? Canelo doesn't even seem to want that belt either and even if he does win it, he's not gonna defend it. I don't really think the belt mattered much of at all in negotiations tbh. Both guys clearly see it as just another trinket. Only one who really lost in this situation is Golovkin and that's because his team banked on the idea that having that interim title would get them the big money fights they want and that idea has been falling apart for months. It's all but completely dead now. As far as the belt, it clearly belongs to Golovkin. For what good it does him.

They thought paying off the WBC and getting themselves in a position to fight Cotto would pay off, have said it many times cotto would not fight GGG and if he does it would be on his own terms not on the WBC or anyone else's term. Cotto had to pay his dues over the years and he isn't just going to give it away just like that, Canelo we know would NOT fight GGG as said by his promoter.

GGG has little options but to take legacy defining fights, his next move his critical as he cant keep fighting the level that he is at the moment.

Cotto speaking nothing but facts!!! Greedy bastards, they want huge fees from fighters that bring in money. Then they go and make dozens of champs to collect fees from them all on irrelevant championship bouts. Floyd had this right all along, f%#^ the sanctioning bodies.
