Honestly, I don't see the issue for anyone whom isn't benefitting from the sanctioning fees directly. I can see why the WBC is upset, considering they aren't getting as big of a slice from the pie, but everyone else up in arms is pointless. The outcome of the fight will pretty much retain its original outcome. Cotto wins, he most likely retires. Canelo wins, he becomes the new champion. What's the issue?
Say Cotto was to win, what makes people think he wouldn't retire and it would be a secured "big money fight" for GGG? Say Canelo wins, if he also vacates for whatever reason, GGG would most likely pick up the trinket. GGG gets what he and his fans want most, the belt and the further unification of the division without even breaking a sweat. If anything GGG and his fans are in win/win situations, since you know... They want to unify the division above anything else.
