Yeah I mean there's nothing wrong with that. What is wrong is his promoter and his fans saying otherwise. His fans can drop the unification thing and just say they like his style, and that's it, they don't have to use the unification thing, his promoter either. It's about money and like you said every fighter is the same, he is no different. It's about high reward and avoiding the high risk, low reward. If his fans, promoter and trainer just admit this, literally no one in the world would insult them, because every fighter does the same thing. Just don't try to feed us otherwise with Golovkin.

Even if Golovkin unifies all of the titles, he still won't be THE middleweight champion. Cotto is still THE lineal middleweight champion. Hence, that theory isn't accurate. The best in the middleweight division until he either leaves the division, loses, or retires is Miguel Cotto.

Sure he'd go up for a one shot deal at 168 but he'd need to be compensated because physically it'd be a sacrifice. Just as it would be to go down to 154 for FMJ. He never intended to move up to SMW and stay there. He comes in well under the 160 limit at MW at the moment. How much you think he'd weigh for a one shot deal with a Froch or Chavez Jr. at SMW? I bet he'd come in quite a bit less than 168.

What you and all the critics seem to be forgetting is that when he was initially talking about this, he was also very willing to take a small fraction of the purse. It wasn't so much about money as it was exposure to the big fanbases of Froch and Chavez Jr. - Ward didn't bring that. And he still doesn't because he hasn't been in the ring. Forget the fact that Ward sent the offer after the Lemieux fight was signed, but why on earth would GGG give Ward a 50/50 split and a 10lb plus weight advantage? Would you do it if you were in Golovkin's position?

His message has remained clear. MW division, with only exception being big names. Just because he expressed interest in fighting Chavez 2 years ago doesn't mean he has any interest now.
          March 2015? Okay.

          August 2015:
Golovkin says he’s not surprised Chavez Jr. lost, still wants to fight him

Seems pretty accurate to me. Although I'd say the $$$ reward for Ward is certainly lower than the others. Though because of GGG's PPV #s he'll have less bargaining power with the others, so it may not be as much of a difference as some would think. Obviously, beating Ward is much more impressive in terms of a W, though the others are vert good.

Sure, that's why he was willing to fight Froch and Chavez Jr at 168, because he had already achieved his "goal"........ Oh wait........

History will not judge Cotto's reign at MW kindly. You can throw out all the archaic technicalities you want, but he's not the best MW in my mind. And I'm willing to bet I'm hardly alone there.

GGG was willing to take individual fights against money guys at 168. But otherwise he's always been clear, he's consolidating 160 first. That's his goal before actually making a move to 168 to win and defend belts.
