He is a good fighter with an exciting style, good wins and good conduct in or out of the ring. He is a favorite of mine and I'm not Mexican. It's funny but when people on here want to trash him they call him ginger or say he has ginger hair. He is just a red head, not a ginger. Red hair is not unusual and red haired women are usually considered very attractive. But Canelo is a ginger to haters as if his red hair makes him a freak. he is a good looking guy and that never hurts a fighter's popularity but I think his exciting fights is the main reason Mexican fans love him. It's clear he loves his Mexican fans and all his fans.

So you are saying if Canelo strains and drains himself to fight at 154 or 155 he can't get knocked out. If he ever dares to fight at 160 everybody would knock him out according to you. Do you really believe there is this huge difference in the punching power of 154 pounders and I60 pounders that 154 pounders can't hurt him but 160 pounders will knock him out? You say he can't fight and has no boxing skills yet he is rated by everybody who rates fighters, Boxing Scene, Boxrec, ESPN, Ring etc. as the best 154 pounder in the world. If he can't beat Cotto then I would agree he is overrated. But if he knocks Cotto out then you have him badly underrated. That fight is only 5 days off.

Mexican fans are passionate about fighters that have balls and will lay it all out on the line. Back in the day, Marquez was the red-headed stepchild of Mexican boxing because he fought so cautiously, it wasnt until he became more aggressive (and some ATGs retired) that the fans got behind him.

Canelo is a come forward fighter that has power and is looking to **** you up and KO you. That is what fans want to see. He's also both handsome and unique looking, so by nature he stands out. He was on a bunch of PPV undercards in 2010-2011 that exposed him to a wide audience and the fans reacted favorably. He's also 25 and has a pretty ****ing awesome resume at this point as well. Why wouldnt he be a star?
