I just don't see how Oscar can say that the fight needs to marinate, but accused Mayweather for not fighting Pac sooner. I wonder if there will be the same criticism given if Canelo fights an older GGG in two or three years from now?Comment

Triple G's team never said the Ward fight had to marinate..it said come to 164 and we have a fight..similar type of catch weight demand that Cotto had for Martinez, Oscar had for B-Hop, Floyd had for Canelo, and Sugar Ray had for Hagler, and on and on...Comment

I recall after the Lemieux fight Oscar saying he would make Canelo vs GGG.
Oscar backtracked real quick.Comment

It needs time to marinate is an old excuse that boxing promoters use to avoid making a fight in which they know their fighter will lose. Bob Arum used the it needs time to marinate excuse to avoid making Gamboa/Juanma. Arum also used it to avoid making Mayweather/Cotto at 140. Frank Warren used this excuse to avoid putting his fighter, Ricky Hatton, in the ring with Mayweather at 140. This excuse has also be used to avoid making Ward/Golovkin and Deontay Wilder vs any quality fighter, including Klithscko and Povetkin.
De La Hoya is afraid of risking the only fighter that he makes any money on against Golovkin. I don't think he has to worry about that because his cash cow will be KO'd on Nov. 21 and will become obsolete anyway.Comment

His team did say at one point that it needed time to marinate. They didn't used those exact words, but they said it. GGG's team has made so many excuses to avoid a Ward fight that I am not surprised that you missed one or two of them.Comment

Oscar's speaking as a promoter...he talks out both sides of his mouth a lot anyway.Comment

Leonard had catchweights for Lalonde and the Hearns rematch. He didn't have one for Hagler, but he got a lot of other concessions in his favor.
Boxing has so many official divisions to begin with, and now you have special weight classes for certain fighters (usually big name ones).
Pretty annoying.Comment
