Eastern Europe would have a great shot at ruling 5 of 8 divisions; Klitschko, Kovalev, Golovkin, Zlaticanin, Lomachenko.
If We Went Back To Eight Divisions...

At light heavyweight, Kovalev, Ward and Stevenson would be forced into a fight. Even with two titles, you can get endless ducking. I'm not saying what side the ducking is on either, but clearly, Stevenson and Kovalev need to fight, with the winner facing Ward.Comment

Yes...There is no way this would ever be the case again with our sport, but if there was one thing I could change about boxing, this would be the first thing that came into my mind, no doubt about it.
Divas would be ousted. The top 10 contenders would actually mean something. Unification fights that we constantly get denied would not be an issue anymore...No more diamond belts, interim, emeritus, super champions, silver belts and whatever else they have these days. Less divisions to me is not so much of an issue, I can live with more than 8 divisions, it is the belt situation that sucks. One champion per division and one list of contenders would be perfect. Almost seems like a dream, would be too good to be true unfortunately.Comment

I think if we went back to 8 divisions, there would have to be a change in the weight limits.
That would be fine by me though, especially below FW where you have a new division every couple of pounds which is ridiculous.Comment

Completely agree with this.It would be better for the sport even with all the titles, the weight classes would be deep
I think they should keep Cruiser though, these damn behemoths are too big for someone weight 180-200
These aren't the 6'1" 185 pound heavyweights of the 50s and earlier.....Even Ali would be a smallish heavyweight today
Imagine how deep welterweight and middleweight(IMO most the contenders would be the 154 guys)....featherweight would be amazing
Man just the thought got my mouth watering
it'll never happen though...too much money to be made with these paper championships and multiple weight classesComment

At Fort Langley in my group we also bartered for a candle holder we were told it was worth about twenty tokens but we bartered it down to only two tokens they take about an hour to make but we had ours pre-made before we got there. To help keep the fire oxygenized there is a huge pump that is attached to the ceiling and you pull a chain to make the pump let out oxygen. My group took pictures of us holding different farm, mining and other everyday tools like axes, pickaxes and other things like hoes for farming. My group really enjoyed bartering for the candle holder and even though we paid two tokens we still answered questions and got those two tokens back. To end off I am just going to say one thing: Go To Fort LangleyComment

Imagine how tough the road to the title would be and how many top level fighters you'd have to beat, if you were a champ in an 8 division world, you would certainly be a bad mandem.Comment

Oh that is for sure. I've suggested the regional title concept before. I say we let the WBA handle that since they're so fond of so many different titles. We could let the WBC do that as well along with the WBO and have the IBF as the only recognized champion since they seem the least corrupt, although I could definitely be wrong there.Originally posted by saint laurentA lot of stuff suggested on this site would only be possible if a dominant league emerged. I know PBC gets a lot of hate here, but it's boxing's best chance of there ever being one champion, less divisions, less ducking, the fights you want to see actually getting made, etc etc.
Personally, in addition to there being just one recognized world champion, with fewer weight classes (I think 10-12 is ideal these days, 8 might be pushing it), I would like to see a little more logic applied to regional titles.
If we went back to just 8 world titles instead of the 90 we currently have (thanks a lot WBA...), it'd be nice if there were credible national titles, continental titles, intercontinental and international titles, so there is a ladder to climb that results in logical and deserving challengers being created to face the world champion.
And the promoters and networks that desire title fights every week, which is really what's created the 17 divisions and 4 governing bodies, while they wouldn't have a world title fight to show every week, I do think the public would become more interested in the regional titles if they weren't treated as being so frivolous.
Really, if it's that way or PBC, I don't care. I just want to see it get done. These past several years have been a major black eye to boxing. Until we get back to getting real champions and real titles to win, there isn't going to be a lot of change in quality. In an 8-belt, 8-champion world, Mayweather and Pacquaio would have fought much sooner as would so many others big fights have happened. We need the change now. If PBC is going for that, more power to them. They've got my support one hundred percent.Comment

Oh I know the promoters want several belts. Of course they do.Originally posted by saint laurentAnthony -
But Mayweather and Pacquiao having different promoters is the exact reason why one belt couldn't happen. Whichever side had the belt, the other side would just go find a belt. We have four titles because the promoters and networks want it that way (while posturing like they don't).
If most of the top talent is ever under the same umbrella, that umbrella's belt is the only belt anyone is going to recognize. Whether that ends up being PBC, XYZ or anything else.
I'd be thrilled with any scenario that eliminates the traditional sanctioning bodies.
I agree. I don't care how it happens. I'd just love to see it happen. It would be great for the sport's future.Comment

And maybe we could just ban catch weights altogether. I think it's ridiculous to ask a fighter to come down to a specific weight to make it more convenient for another fighter. Especially in title fights, this needs to stop.Comment
