All of those things, but it's mostly about staying sharp..... making sure that your timing/reflexes are on point, and being sharp.

It's extremely common, in every sport.

    It's about being " match-fit ".

Nah thats ridiculous. He was been inactive.

And who cares to be honest, so long as we get Kovalev.

Just to provide an example..... I have been listening to Golovkins hollow promises for years, I can do this I can do that yadda yadda, but he hasn't done a single thing that he said he would do, not one..... so waiting 12 months for Kovalev/Ward is nothing.

Ward follows through, he has proven that, so yea..... no problem here.

        I know why.

Earlier, whenever Wards name was mentioned, Tom Loeffler would start stammering and stuttering and break out an excuse, and the funny thing is, he would use a different excuse every time.

Those excuses started to pile up.

Soon it became plainly obvious that they wanted nothing to do with Ward.

Then over the last year-or-so we hear Golovkin state that he is willing to fight Froch/Chavez at 168..... but not Ward, he has to come in at 164

Then when Roc nation forwarded an offer, it was turned down in 25 minutes flat. Turning an offer down in 25 minutes flat means that you didn't even read it LOL

And this is despite GGG stating that he can beat everyone from 154-168.

        So yea, thats why.

I outlined in another post why I think there's a good chance it won't happen - Ward likes lawsuits, is injury prone, is a diva, seems to be being pulled along by the hand up to 175 rather than jumping up with relish.

Imagine a mother yanking a 5 year old to school on the first day, her child is straining in the opposite direction, and the kid almost suffocating as he sobs he doesn't want to go to the 'big boy' school - that is the image Ward is giving off. So yeah, if I didn't see all of that I might feel more positive about this fight happening. To be clear, I am positive about the fight.

I think you can get most of that in sparring especially the timing. Stephen Breadman Edwards wrote about an interesting theory he has, namely, most of what you get used to in tune ups is being hit again. He says that takes a lot of getting used to and is terribly over-looked.

Interestingly, when Ward was interviewed on Wednesday he came out with this " ... yeah, and it's not them (the fans) who are getting hit" - of course nobody (apart from a few psychos) likes to get hit but maybe Ward was revealing a particular dislike of being hit?

In any case he needs to get used to being hit hard as Kovalev will land. Fighting SMWs is probably a lost opportunity.

Yea, you harden up to sparring again, a whole lotta things..... it helps you keep sharp mentally as well.

Staying active and staying disciplined between fights = the key.

Ward has wasted a lot of his career, same with guys like Mikey Garcia, etc.

There is a saying..... " they never come back ".

There is some truth in it.

Your statement above is your own biased perception supported by somewhat inaccurate half-truths. GGG's team in a meeting with HBO said yes to the fight when Ward said no. All they have been asking for the past 2 years was for Andre to get busy building the fight. That means actually getting in the ring and fighting. You know, that thing GGG does in front of sold out arenas 3 or 4 times a year. Ward hasn't done squat. Every "excuse" you can pull up will basically revolve around this simple fact. Ward hasn't put in the work and doesn't deserve the fight. The RocN offer was turned down so quickly because it was a lousy deal for GGG who'd just signed to fight Lemieux and is the mandatory for the Cotto/Canelo winner (something they've been working towards since the Rubio fight BTW). If I need to further explain to you why giving Ward a 50/50 split to fight him at a 12lbs disadvantage a year from now is a bad deal, then you're beyond reason.

Team Golovkin - and his band of merry worshipers - have used every excuse in the book to duck Ward..... but the one you used in bold, is the very ******est excuse that you could possibly make.

That excuse reeks of fear, because it is obviously bull****.

And secondly, when will you golovtards start keeping it real..... stop referring to back when Ward was inactive..... you know that he returned in June against Paul Smith, nothing that happened before that matters.

Hypekin had a chance to fight Ward and he turned him down in 25 mins flat!

Kovalev had the balls to back up his big mouth, but lil'G did not.

Ward moved on to bigger and better things.

Another reason why your poor excuse reeks of fear..... HBO felt that Ward "deserved" a Kovalev fight simply because their guy had the balls to fight Ward..... while lil'G clearly did not.

There are 3 eastern-bloc fighters who are currently fighting on the world stage..... Kovalev, Golovkin, Lomachenko..... 2 are real, and 1 is not.

More emotionally charged, biased BS supported by half-truths and now peppered with insults…Did you read my post at all? I’ve already addressed much of this. Oh well. Okay. Yes, Ward did fight Paul Smith. One fight in the last 2 years against a guy ranked 30something in the SMW division who showed up at the weigh in looking like he’d been training for a hot dog eating contest rather than a prize fight. Never the less, SOG put on a scintillating show for 300k lucky viewers tuning in on BET not to mention those fortunate enough to be in attendance in Ward’s hometown arena where they put on a concert and give away tickets so it wouldn’t be half empty. Is that what Ward’s bringing to the GGG party? Golovkin just sold out MSG but he should agree to 50/50, right? And he should give Ward 10-15lbs on fight night right? Amazing that it took GGG 25 mins to turn down such a generous offer (well 36 minutes according to RocN but you don’t seem to be too much of a stickler when it comes to facts). Now Ward’s signed a contract (didn’t he have a contract with some guy named Goosen a while back?) to fight Kovalev sometime later next year after his “tune ups”…one of which he’s already pulled out of because of an injury. WTF…

Let’s address this “fear” thing for you…Months ago, after Ward started dissing GGG and acting like a child, Golovkin, who’s never been disrespectful to Ward, gave an interview where he talked about sitting down with Ward and HBO. That he said yes to the fight and Ward said no. An assertion that’s never been refuted by anyone in GGG’s camp, Ward’s camp, or at HBO. In the interview, he called Ward out and said he was dead to him as a man. That’s not fear. That’s telling him to ****off. And rightfully so. GGG doesn’t need Ward at the moment. So now Ward is left out because he’s not only not put in the work to build the fight but he’s started calling Golovkin names. It’s behavior that’s beneath him. Sorry, but just because you really, really want GGG to be afraid of Ward doesn’t make it true.

Good grief..... you starting out by calling my post "emotionally charged, biased BS supported by half-truths"..... and then you embarked on an epic whinge-a-thon novel, citing every possible excuse in the book.

Listen, I have been paying attention for years, Wards name was first mentioned to Tom Loeffler YEARS ago, right back when they first started that "anyone from 154-168" schtick...... everytime Wards name was mentioned Loeffler would make a different excuse and change the subject.

He clearly has no interest whatsoever in that fight.

And it's obvious why, matchmaking is all about styles/levels.

I don't even have a problem with it, because I understand why.

They just need to start being honest with the fans.....
