Ward vs. Kovalev is set to happen next year.

Boxing fans' reaction: "Great! I'm really looking forward to a fight between two of the best out there!"

Non-boxing fans/rabid jealous fans of another fighter: "I don't believe it. I want to see the contract. Oh there is a contract? ****....um.....Ward will get injured and pull out. Ward will duck the fight. Ward will make demands. Ward will retire...oh he didn't do any of that? Uhmmm....Ward holds too much, Ward is dirty, Ward cheats...."

    You get the picture.
so "boxing fans" = "people who agree with me" and "non-boxing fans" = "people who don't agree with me". very mature

i think it's a fair observation that ward appears to be dragging his heels in actually getting in the ring with a proper opponent. he's been injury free and signed to roc nation since the start of the year; he could have had his three tune-ups and given us a real date for the kovalev clash already. kovalev wants it now and most fans would rather have the fight right now. why does it take 12 months to gain three lbs? why does he want such soft opponents in the meantime? maybe he is just super cautious, but it's not so crazy to suspect that something is up. this is boxing after all, we shouldn't be surprised by the bull**** that goes on

All I can say is that there is at least willingness from both sides and a contract in place which is more than you can say for other fights that boxing fans wanted to see.

Could be Klitschko. Or Nielsen vs Rudy

          But yeah I agree.

Though Kovalev vs Ward is definitely not far behind imo.

            Tipos. Kov then. Happy?

Even Ward fans are starting to wonder about his attitude and they are biased to favorably interpret his utterances. eg. Bandman poster above.

All the doubts are based on Ward's recent history. In the ring and out of it.

Out of the ring he is litigious, injury prone and acts like a diva, bitching about being forced to move up and "what's the hurry?".

In the ring he has a predilection for easy fights way beneath a top P-4-P fighter in his prime.

One of your primary reasons for defending his bitch-ass moves is he was the only fighter to defeat Froch - Ward being great reflects well on Froch.

Edit:- Only fighter to own Froch

No, he said Pac-May built up for YEARS and look at the numbers it did.

He thinks that he can just fight a bunch of tin cans until Kovalev gets old or something

Ward, once the knee itis clears up, will likely be penciled in for his own HBO date for Jan/Feb (likely in Oakland, if the Wilder rumors for Barclays Center hold true), before fighting again, on HBO, come May/Jun (likely at Barclays Center in Brooklyn) against a solid guy. As long as he gets into the ring, the opponent for his 175 debut doesn't honestly matter that much.

Kovalev's camp is utterly fortunate that Beterbiev came down with a shoulder injury; if he hadn't, Kathy Duva would've likely compelled him to give up the IBF belt, with the WBA belt not far behind (WBO being in bed with Top Rank/HBO would've likely steered that organization away from determining any mandatory challenger for their belt).
