18 Years World Champion: Will it be broken?

Floyd Mayweather has been world champion for 18 years, although not officially I believe, taking into account his previous "retirements".

This is quite an achievement. He was obviously careful with how he handles his business, but will this statistic ever be surpassed?

Yeah it could but 18 years as a world champion whilst being undefeated I'm not sure.

I'm unsure if anyone else has done that off the top of my head.

    It's definitely an impressive feat.

Who has come closest to beating this / held this 'record' before Floyd? Joe Louis?

I honestly can't think of anyone.

You guys need to quit believing everything Floyd says. I'm a Floyd fan from his pre-Olympic headgear days @ the Wyoming, Michigan National Guard Armory, but he's no 18yr champion.

          130lb Champ Oct. 3, 1998-Apr. 20, 2002 (3yrs, 6mos)
          135lb Champ Apr. 20, 2002-May 22, 2004 (2yrs, 1mo)
          140lb Champ June 25, 2004-Mar. 23, 2006 (9mos)
          147lb Champ Apr. 8, 2006-June 20, 2006 (2mos)
          147lb Champ Nov. 4, 2006-June 7, 2008 (1yr, 7mos)
          154lb Champ May 6, 2007-July 4, 2007 (2mos) - this overlaps with 147 reign

          Retired

          147lb Champ Sept. 17, 2011-Nov. 4, 2015 (4yrs, 1mo)
other titles after this one, but the above title covered his career

Add it all up & Floyd was champ for about 12 & 1/2 years. Still extremely impressive, but a solid drop from 18yrs. **** it ain't even been 18yrs since he won his 1st title ffs.

Bernard Hopkins could've done it with cherry picking, but he fought everyone.

Good post. He won his first title in 1998 which would make it 17 years ago. He also retired twice. I think the Ortiz fight was his first title fight since his first retirement. Floyd is like a pathological liar sometimes. He's really only been a champion 13 years, which as you said is still impressive, but he's definitely no 18 year champion.

Floyd has been the best gay boxer since Emile Griffith.
