[interview] TBE doesnt believe GGG is worth the hype until he takes a risk vs ward

BT: Floyd, I don't know if you heard, but the first attempt at building the next pay-per-view star in the post-Mayweather era didn't turn out quite as well as some had hoped. Golovkin's first pay-per-view card did less than 150,000 buys. Do you think a fighter like Golovkin has what it takes to eventually do the type of pay-per-view numbers that you, and other pay-per-view stars before you, did during your careers?

FM: What I did, it will never be duplicated. Never! I don't know what my numbers were for pay-per-view the first time out, but I just want to let the fighters know this, just because you can fight has nothing to do with selling tickets, putting asses in the seats, or becoming a pay-per-view star. It takes more than just being able to fight. It takes more than that. You have to have a certain aura about yourself, a certain charisma about yourself, a certain sales pitch about yourself; it takes a total package. The thing is, as far as boxing, it's all about taking risks and taking chances. I did it. I took risks. I took chances. I'm just waiting to see if Triple G is going to go up and fight Andre Ward. I'm going to be convinced when he can go up and beat Andre Ward. Until then, I'm not convinced.

And I honestly feel it's not a black thing, it's not a white thing, it's the right thing, but like I said before, racism still exists in boxing. They had Hispanics and black fighters only that was dominating the sport for years. An Asian fighter comes along and makes a lot of noise, which is Manny Pacquiao. For years, they said I was a coward, I was scared, or I was ducking this guy. All I said is random blood and urine testing and let's make it happen. Eventually, we got to a certain point, we negotiated the fight, it happened, it is what it is. So what I'm saying is this, they were so adamant about that fight [Mayweather vs. Pacquiao], you know, but they're not adamant about Triple G fighting Andre Ward?

Whoever is forcing Andre Ward to go up to [light] heavyweight, that's not cool at all. They're trying to get him beat. From the looks of things, what's going on in the sport of boxing, they want their superstar to be Caucasian. It's obvious. And this has been going on for a very long time. They wanted me to lose to Pacquiao, but that didn't happen. When you get to comparing champions, comparing fighters, all I have to say is I did it my way. I did it my way!

    By the same standard:

Mayweather isn't worth the hype until he moves up to 160 to fight Golovkin.

Ward isn't worth the hype until he fights Kovalev at 175.

But Mayweather and Ward have proven their "hype" by beating top level fighters and in dominant fashion.

And by that, we don't mean no hopers like Martin Murray or Pepe LePew

Why not Froch though? That got Ward a lot of mileage, and he didn't go up in weight for it, or fight him in the UK

Come to think of it, Floyd has never gone up in weight to face p4p #2 (or even top 10, like Froch last year), much less unpopular one, wanting 50/50 lol. Even Winky was not as high ranked, nor wanted such laughable terms

So its okay to force GGG to go up weight but not Ward, neither men have went up a single weight division not unless a catchweight against Smith counts talk about hypocrisy.

You forget Murray was robbed in fights, nobody absolutely nobody at 160 dominated Murray like he was handled when he fought Golovkin.
We'll see If the Germans make it a hattrick of robberies IF he can pull it off against Arthur, pretty sad you'd have to attack a fellow Brit who has done many things the hard way to justify your hate of one character.
