Somewhat. Like the history forum has made me go rewatch old fights. And the all time great lists made me go do research on the old school fighters. And I'll watch a fight if someone in here recommends it.

The fan boys actually made me question if boxing was still for me. But there is enough good threads and good posters inbetween all the groupie threads to be able to talk boxing with others.
The history section is always worth a visit. It can help fill in gaps for you, or remind you to go research that fight from the past you always meant to read up on.Comment

Yes, when I was younger, I think I was more of a fighter fan. Some of the fighters I liked could do no wrong and the ones I didn't like could do no right.fight fan is a fan of the sport as a whole and in general is more likely to talk about their favorite fighter's weaknesses and point out fights that fighter could lose while still going to war with that fighter.
a fighter fan is a delusional fan who can't see anything objectively wrong with their, generally, undefeated fighter who he believes is the next ATG but hasn't actually analyzed more than three of their fights but still goes to war with them. and they will likely lose interest in the sport when they can't find a fighter to root for because they can't enjoy the sport if they don't know who the fighters are.
However, as you get older, you look through history to see that they were all flawed and the ones who got anywhere were all strong in certain areas.
I think being a fight fan is way more interesting since you get to study a lot of fighters and different styles. I've definitely learned a lot more by admitting that my favorites are not gods and that my least favorites are not demons. They're just guys who are great at the sport in different ways.Comment

Say what you will. In my 'illustrious' career I learned everything that you will never know of the sport. Anybody can watch tv and read print and say that they know boxing, when in reality they know very little.
Where are you in the Ring Record book and who'd you ever throw fists with. I could name champions, former champions, future champions, beginners and everybody in between that I threw fists with.
I never once claimed to be a world champion.
I was taught this sport by some great trainers in the gyms of Detroit. Where'd you learn yours?
So take your playground fight knowledge and kindly shove it up your ass.
