I have learned that boxing fans place more emphasis on emotions rather than logic. I've learned that truth and facts don't matter to boxing fans. They will believe what they want regardless of what the facts and logic says.

Well knowing theory is not the same as in practice id say here you do learn a bit more about boxing history if you're under 30.But also you loose all hope in humanity.

There tends to be a good deal of sarcasm and negativity, no doubt. I think some posters are looking for attention of course. But sometimes, even a bit of a battle at first can lead to some knowledge when tempers calm down. I think the insulting each other is pointless and so is constantly bashing any of the fighters since they do have the guts to get into the ring to begin with. I like to commend fighters on great performances like Bradley's win over Rios. Some debate about Rios being hurt by the weight, but come on. Bradley fought very well and deserves his praise. Just be happy about it.

Learned a lot from good posters on this forum. Made me interested in a lot of fighters I didn't really know before.

          But the 09, '10 & '11 years were better.

Now it's riddled with idiots who literally make you dumber.

I get boxing news from here, so there's that. But otherwise it seems that race and nationality are everything for the fans. Not much else matters to people.

I really think that's true of the world as a whole. I usually like fighters based on emotions. Roberto Duran is my favorite because mainly of the first Leonard fight. I loved his technique and style but also his aggression and his ferocity. He wanted the win with everything he had and took it. A fighter with a passion is what inspires me to be a fan which does stem from emotion. And hey, what a fighter does outside the ring and how he carries himself has a lot to do with it too. Even if a fighter is talented, it's always hard to root for a jerk. I admire Carlos Monzon and think he might have been the best middleweight ever, but he was definitely a cold person who committed murder. Not a guy I'd want to be in the same room with.

And not to argue with you, but I've known a lot of fans of other sports whose only reason for being a fan of a certain team was because they were from the city or area the team was located in. With boxing fans, I don't think you get a lot of that, although I am from Tennessee and always liked watching Kennedy McKinney fight. But he was also a classic boxer-puncher which is always fun to watch for me.

I'm glad to get a veteran poster's opinion!

                    So those years were better?

                    I hate I missed them.

However, I don't think all is lost. I've read many posts that I thought were insightful, well thought out and respectful as well as thought provoking. I know none of us is Bert Sugar, but we can bring up the topics that we can all learn from instead of bashing each other or other fights all the time. This is a sport we all love obviously. So why always be negative?

And I'm a Joe Frazier fan too. I read his biography last year. He was a warrior and a damn tough man all the way around. I liked him more than Ali as well, but I will say that I think Ali brought out Joe Frazier's absolute best in the ring.

Way better. There were a lot of good posters, the history section was busy every day and no trolls. Even the trolls are in the history section now.

It has driven a lot of the quality posters away from the forum. And some just post way less regularly now. But even today, once a while there'll be a quality thread in the history section.

There are a few posters around here today who were watching boxing in the late 60s and 70s still. A few who were around in the 80s and a little more like me, who got into it in the 90s.

Then you have the guys who just got into it and think they know it all and disregard the history of the sport. Complete idiots.

I wouldn't necessarily say I like Frazier more than Ali, but it's interesting to know that if you speak to Holmes, Norton, Foreman, Shavers, Lyle etc. They all said Frazier was the best of that particular time.

Definitely didn't and still doesn't get the respect he deserves.
