Just thought of this fantasy fight. Oooooo this would've been sick.
If you're talking about Fernando, he didn't fight at 147. In any case if you mean at 154 then Vargas by TKO. He bullies the smaller although more technical Cotto.

He's had a few fights right at 147, and near that weight early in his career, but you're right, he's essentially a career 154 lb. fighter with a few MW fights.
For the sake of argument, let's say the fight's at a 150 lb. CW. Both comfortable weights for both guys.
He might be smaller, but Cotto was strong as a bull at the lower weight classes.

Cotto was strong as hell at 140(he was a killer at that weight), but at 147 he got walked down by Margarito and Clottey, Vargas was even bigger. The problem for Cotto is that he is the smaller man his stamina and that Vargas had a right hand you had to respect. Cotto doesn't like the right hand and would get walked down by Vargas.

Ya'll right, Vargas was a naturally bigger dude, but Cotto has that crippling body shot. I think he has enough power regardless of size, and would wear him down.
I think Cotto would slip something between Fernando's gloves, and dust Vargas with something big.
People underestimate Cotto's skills and power, I think he can hang with Vargas in the early rounds and make it competitive. But eventually Vargas' size and power will catch up to Cotto, who tends to fade against guys who make him work. Once Cotto fades, he'll be easier to hit and it'll be lights out for him.
Vargas would knock out Cotto within 7 or 8 rds. I don't think Cotto has even fought or been hit by a big, natural 154 lber with the power and boxing skills that prime El Feroz had.
