I think Cotto would at least stand a chance, based on skill. I just don't know that he would go in with the right game-plan. He let Margs light up his body when he should have just been working that jab and GTFO of danger from the gate. This fight, just as any fight against a much larger, stronger guy, requires an extremely tight plan and no deviation. If he didn't play it agile and swift with Vargas he'd take too much punishment and get killed after he slowed down.

Because Cotto is being severely underrated in this thread.

Jessie Vargas? Yeah, I'll give the kid 3 rounds, but Cotto out-hustles him.

Really good fight. Vargas struggled a bit with good movement and didn't have the fastest hands or reflexes. Cotto would be able to catch him with some pretty good hooks upstairs. Might even build a lead but Vargas' size, strength and steady rhythm would take over the down the stretch. I like him to win a UD or maybe a stoppage on cuts.

Cotto doesn't like the right hand and would get walked down by Vargas.
i remember when Oscar fought Vargas and I couldn't believe how much bigger Vargas was. He'd totally dwarf cotto and beat him up bad. Vargas was a whirlwind in boxing, gone just as fast as he came.

That Vargas looked like a totally different fighter than the prime version. Just ripped and huge. The Vargas who fought Tito looked leaner. But he would still tower over Cotto for sure.

If I recall he got jammed for steroids for that fight. But yeah, he was huge. I remember when it started he was bullying Oscar into the ropes I think he got tangled in them. I thought he as going to destroy Oscar after that. Really underrated fight.

Cotto just has a small build so would look even tinier than Oscar.

I'll reserve an opinion for after Cotto/Canelo. I think that fight will tell us all we need to know about this fantasy matchup. Except for Vargas being bigger than both.

Vargas looked like a shell of himself post-Tito, or at least his chin and reflexes did. Rivera had him down and on ***** street and Flores stunned him too. I expected Oscar to be too quick and skillful for him but I wasn't expecting a stoppage win. That was a smart, thrilling performance by Oscar. He and Floyd Sr. had some nice synergy.
