Edit: I meant by the end of 2016...
The HBO contract is a three fight deal I believe and he is suppose to fight Kovalev by the end of 2016. Correct me if I'm wrong. Given his inactivity he can fight three fights in one year.

... I can't correct you... I didn't see that "contract" and I never heard Ward saying that he signed something which somehow "force" him to fight Kovalev until the end of 2016... I'm honest about that.

Who actually said this? HBO, or Ward and his team?

Ward said it himself that he is going to fight Kovalev.

You give me a link which states that "According to FightHype sources, Andre Ward has finalized his three-fight deal with HBO which will feature him on the upcoming Cotto-Canelo card and line him up for a showdown with Sergey Kovalev" ... "with him finally taking on Sergey Kovalev in what will probably be next Fall."

Thanks, but I was able to read the news by myself...

He signed the HBO deal, that's pretty much confirmed on every boxing website, and Ward is not denying that. Ward is pretty much silent on confirmations. Dan Rafael was the first one to report that Ward will move up to LHW in his next fight, despite no official response from Ward. Of course it turned out to be true.

... Thanks. This was all that I wanted to see: Ward's formal confirmation that he signed some sort of a deal with leads him to a Kovalev fight later next year... But I can't see anywhere such a formal confirmation in the news...

                    Ward confirmed it on fightype.

BT: The 3-fight deal you signed with HBO, I know you haven't officially spoken too much about it, but reports say that it's supposed to end in a showdown with unified light heavyweight champion Segey Kovalev. Is that officially the goal, to fight Kovalev in that 3rd fight?

AW: Absolutely. I'm not ducking nothing and never have. At the end of the day, there's no way I'ma come to Kovalev's neighborhood at 175 and at some point not knock on his door and want to play. So that's just that! Kovalev is the real deal and I appreciate the way he's gone about it. He's fought the best competition that he can fight. He's not only fought the best competition, but he went to their backyard to do it, so you gotta respect a guy who does that. I don't think he gets a lot of the credit that he deserves. That's the difference between the way guys are brought up in the different eras versus maybe now. These days, guys, they wait until they see a weakness or they want to pick somebody after they got beat or they got hurt or something happened when they saw a flaw. It's like, nah, we're coming up to 175 knowing that Kovalev is the top dog. I respect Kovalev and at some point, we're going to bump heads. I think he's an all-around good fighter. He seems to be a hard hitter, and not only that, but he's skillful, so that won't be an easy fight.

Also if everything goes to scheduled he can still fight Kovalev by the end of the year. He can fight in February, than June or July and than fight Kovalev in late November or December.

EDIT: It's just a swelling, so that should heal up within a month.
So we have a guy who entered a fight against Carl Froch with a broken hand electing NOT to fight a no-hoper because of a SWELLING? Really? Do you believe that?
