      You're right.

Hopkins and Ward are just household names and PPV stars.

      Everyone's cup of tea

Add to that they don't clinch half as much as Wlad did against Povetkin on their worst nights.

I recall Bhop clinching as much if not more when he fought Joe Calzaghe
I recall Ward clinching to the heavens against Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler but he seems to get a pass on that one.

I believe I tallied the entire clinch rate of Bhop Vs Calzaghe and I'm certain it was well past the 100 mark.

"And even in the stretch that began in 1964, it’s nearly as difficult to conceive of a championship-level fighter sturdy enough to stretch him to the late rounds, skilled enough to out-do him in a technical match or tough enough to withstand his shots to get close enough to land a go-home punch of his own."

I don't find it that difficult to conceive, actually. Corrie Sanders, Lamon Brewster, and Ross Purrity were all good enough.

that was a long time ago before he learned how to fight tall and pace himself

Ward didn't hold much against Froch,. Complete myth.

As if Ward got a pass on the Kessler fight It hunts his boring ass to this day and rightly so. Disgusting fight that was.

Hopkins held more in the Wright fight, but he's also not everyone's cup of tea like Wlad. What he's done at 45+ is remarkable, that's why he gets a pass.

The difference though is that Wlad clinches 10+ times EVERY round.
