Despite what the article may lead you to believe, this is all very simple. Either Golovkin accepts any and all conditions requested by Cotto, or there will be no fight. Golovkin's mandatory status will not matter to Cotto; Cotto could vacate the title and still keep the lineal championship. Miguel could go on to fight Mayweather, while Golovkin could fight Andy Lee. That's it. You take it or leave it. Cotto does not need Golovkin; Golovkin needs Cotto.

And it makes no sense that anyone believes the most important factor here is a title. Again, even if Cotto vacates, he'd still be the king of the middleweight division--the lineal champion. And a title won't help Golovkin's career anywhere near as much as a huge fight with Cotto would. What Team GGG is truly after is fame and money, and, hence, they know what must be done. It's up to them.

Also, hasn't Golovkin said he'd go down to 154 before, for Mayweather? If Cotto beats Canelo, Miguel would be as big of a deal in this sport as anyone else. Why not accept Cotto's requests?

Cotto isn't a middleweight. He's a welterweight/junior-middleweight who's beating middleweights. Just because he's doing something special doesn't mean he has to give up a huge weight advantage to Golovkin. Miguel Cotto's in the driver's seat, and he'd still be fighting at middleweight at 155, if he chose to remain in the division. Let's be real.

Golovkin will have to negotiate a catchweight with Cotto, one that he can come down to without being drained. If he cannot do so, then go fight Andy Lee.

If Golovkin does accept Cotto's requests, I don't want to hear anything about "drainage." It's in Golovkin's hands to negotiate how low he can go. If he cannot make a certain weight, then don't accept. Again, go fight Andy Lee. If he does, Cotto deserves full credit once victorious.

What he is doing certainly is not "special". He's a junior middleweight, using financial leverage to drain middleweights down to weaken them, so he can have history recognize him as the middleweight champion, which is a joke.

If he was truly "special", he would be beating middleweights at their best, not their worst. Tell me whats so special about beating Geale at 157. The guy looked like an Auschwitz prisoner at the weigh in.

I said he same thing the other day...

Crazy how you have guys here to call themselves "boxing fans" that are actually advocating for the winner of GGG/Cotto to drop the belt rather than face their mandatory. These so called fans are A-side cheerleaders rather than true fight fans.

No one forced Geale to accept that. And no other middleweight is forced to accept anything. It's up to them to negotiate a viable catch-weight. If they cannot make a certain weight, then don't accept it. That simple.

You control your career. Golovkin just made close to a million dollars merely to step aside. I don't think he's starving. That's more money than most people will ever see. And still, you have to keep your integrity and do what's best for you. If a person sells themselves for money, then that's on that person.

Not that you asked, but I agree. Yusuf Mack does not.

GGG doesnt strike me as a person who's after the money more than he is the recognition.
