i didnt know that fighting 1 lb above the limit for non-title fights was against the rules, when was the last time a commission did not allow a fighter to do that???

Roberto Duran had like 26 catch weight fights during his lightweight title reign, before he moved up to welterweight.

I think its just a high risk low reward. GGG is not a mainstream draw yet and Canelo and Golden Boy figure they can fight anyone and do the same numbers and make the same money, if not more, fighting other guys. Unfortunately GGG nor the WBC can force this fight.
if canelo does the belt hostage at CWs i will be disappointed too, if he continues as a MW champ he better fight at 160 or else leave the belt and go back to 154...

GGG will be WBC champion by christmas without fighting for the belt. The winner of Cotto-Canelo will be stripped if they do not reach an agreement with Golovkin and since GGG will not move down (and why should he?) and Cotto/Canelo will not fight him at 160 such a deal seems very unlikely.

if he ends up fighting GGG at 155 or other CW, i hope that the title is in GGGs hands before the fight is settled... oh, and dont put the title at stake for this fight... it already shouldnt be at stake for cotto-canelo..

I'm a Canelo fan but i'd be hypocritical not to call him out, as i've done the same to other fighters who have hovered between divisions for too long.

He says he has no plans to move up to 160 anytime soon, yet Cotto will be his 4th straight above 154.
I doubt we will see him at 154 again, so in that case he's no longer a Jr.MW.

I'm not a fan of seeing fighters in constant catch-weights.

Did I say that it was? No. What I did say is that Canelo has declared that 155 is the weight for a middleweight championship fight between him and GGG. That's five pounds below the middleweight limit. So far, the commission has not publicly stated that it will not allow Canelo to impose that weight limit (155) on the middleweight title fight. If the commission would declare that the limit for a middleweight title fight is 160, and that what Canelo said is meaningless, then it would not be allowing Canelo his fantasy. As the commission hasn't addressed Canelo's declaration concerning the weight for a middleweight fight against GGG, it is as if it has allowed Canelo to become the sanctioning body supplanting the commission itself.

That may be but despite what he and his team says they don't really want the belt at all costs, they want the big money fights against Canelo or Cotto that comes with it. GGG is not that young, he knows he only has so many opportunities to have big paydays. If Canelo or Cotto wins and drops the belts to avoid GGG that would be bad for Gennady.
