When Canelo fights Cotto the difference will show. He will be fighting a better Cotto than Mayweather fought and he will beat Cotto better than Mayweather did. Besides if Mayweather refused to fight Canelo at any weight above 152 back then, what makes you think he would fight him at 160 today????? Mayweather is very careful how he matches himself. There is no way in hell he would ever agree to fight Canelo at 160.
I wouldn't blame him anyway. Floyd probably has no business at 160, he barely does at 154 and Canelo is young and been growing, he's naturally a bigger heavier guy than Floyd. It's only because Canelo started at such a young age that we saw him at 154 or lower. Had he become famous at the age of most other fighters like mid 20's, he would probably be considered a 160 guy. It's only because we knew him from such a young undeveloped age that we think otherwise.

With that said, i don't think Canelo can beat Floyd Mayweather at all. Their difference in class is massive.

Has Canelo really improved since fighting Floyd? I think a bit, but i don't think he's improved enough or Floyd has declined enough to close the gap significantly enough for it to be competitive. Even Stevie Wonder could see their difference in class. It was essentially a mis-match once the fight started. A close fight (potential loss) against Lara, and beating a punching bag like Angulo and Kirkland doesn't convince me he's so much better.

And fighting a better Cotto? hmm, i'm not sure. I don't buy into this Cotto resurrection under Roach. I think he's basically the same guy that lost to Trout and Floyd, he has just been very well matched. Martinez is a good name but he was about as mobile as Stephen Hawking that night.

Would Floyd go to 160 though?
I think he would happily fight Canelo again and still beat him but I got my doubts on him hitting up to 160 plus it'd cause a lot of people *****ing about him not fighting Golovkin.

You should just be satisfied with the great record Mayweather has today. He is not coming out of retirement to win the lineal middleweight championship. It just a nice dream of some of his fans that will never happen. Mayweather is too small and too far past prime to beat either GGG or Canelo at 160 and he has no desire to fight them today. He might still be able to beat Cotto but I doubt Cotto will be middleweight champ much longer.

Canelo is too slow for mayweather. But he landed more punches on mayweather than pacquiao did.
If he can't beat Cotto easily then I would agree with you. Let's see how slow Cotto does against Cotto.

We keep talking about Canelo having the 160 belt. I like how people are taking Cotto for granted.

Mayweather is only in this discussion to vacate the belt to GGG Upon getting to 50-0. The WBC Would give GGG Negotiating power over Canelo by giving GGG the belt

I get what your saying. But if floyd tried to position himself for a rematch with canelo at 160 catch weight for the belt and lineage id tell floyd 50 50 in 20x20 ring at the full 160 .take it or leave it.

He would bring Canelo to 154.5

Mayweather has a great record and I don't blame him for not fighting middleweights. He is a welterweight. As far as the huge gab in ability between Canelo and Mayweather goes we just disagree. Mayweather easily beat him but that doesn't mean he can beat him years later without the aid of a catchweight. Let's see how Canelo does with Cotto. The gap in ability between Canelo and Mayweather may no longer be as great as you think it is.

Canelo moving to 160 isn't much of a stretch, he's been struggling to make 154 and even created his own weight class at 155.

You may well be right about Cotto not being better today than he was when he fought Mayweather. I am a big Canelo fan so I guess I want him to get maximum credit if he beats Cotto. If Canelo loses to Cotto I would agree that the gap in skills between him and Mayweather is huge. Cotto is the measuring stick.
