    Is Sergey Kovalev being overlooked?

I look at a fighter like Sergey Kovalev and I see a guy that

Is a win away from being undisputed champion

    Has Looked unbeatable

Has one of the best resumes in boxing right now

But why is he not receiving p4p #1 consideration? Where is the push for him to be a PPV headliner? Why isn't he packing arenas? And where does he go from here?

Best resume??? His two wins are 50y/o Hopkins and shot Pasqual. How do you get p4p #1 consideration for that? I will say that he looks dominant in the fights he has had, but do did Bute and pretty much every undefeated guy until they faced top competition. Let Kovalev get a meaningful win or two, then you can say he deserves a spot like that.

When did Pascal become shot? And old Hopkins was still at the top of the division and winning, he's not your typical old guy.

Now Stevenson's career-defining win over Dawson... Who ended up being totally shot... That leaves questions

he is pretty popular to be fair. For a non American that is.

in terms of not being pushed for PPv and not packing out arenas, maybr could be that he has a more awkward style than, say, GGG. He's a brutal puncher but it often doesnt look that great aesthetically. Maybe doesnt connect as well with the casuals.

Also there arent any huge names in or around his division. Using GGG as an example again, they were able to market him with potential fights with Mayweather (however unlikely) and the fact that Cotto and Canelo dont seem that interested in fighting him. Thats 3 of the biggest names in all of boxing who his name can be associated with. Kovalev by contrast has Adonis Stevenson, Bernard Hopkins and Andre Ward. Not terrible, but not in the same league in terms of getting your name on casuals lips.

The P4P Argument is subjective obviously but i cant see him being above Chocolatito, Klitschko or Ward (if you rank him) personally. He's well up there on most peoples list though. Top 5 for sure.

Come on Redd, bute was getting his ass kicked by Andrade before he pulled off that miracle in the last round. The signs were there from before. I don't consider the two comparable. I definitely agree he needs some bigger wins but that's boxing today. Guys get rated very highly over one or two wins. When kovalev has stepped up he has been deadly and humiliated a legend, regardless of age. He also wiped out cleverly who just gave fonfara, who is rated top five at lhw, a war. He's got some good wins and has looked impressive, I think that's the best we're going to get nowadays.

He is the best fighter in boxing right now. Him or Wlad.

Gonzalez is an imposter. GGG is a top guy but not better than Kovalev or Wlad. Wlad is also currently in tougher right now with Fury and Wilder lurking HW, which are both more dangerous than the MW's.

Also Wlad's latest wins over Povetkin, Jennings and Pulev, they were not pretty, but they were better fighters than Lemieux, Monroe, Geale, Rubio etc.

Hopkins, Pascal, Cleverly, at the time he beat them were top wins, also better than anyone GGG has beaten. I would say Murray is better than Cleverly as a win but that's about it.

Kovalev is better than GGG. He's more powerful. He's been just as impressive against better competition. I'm not sure why he doesn't receive the same hype that Golovkin gets. Kovalev would crush Andre Ward. He might have a hard time with Stevenson. Other than that I'm not sure anyone at 175 can beat him.

Curious why you think that. If you don't like smaller weights then I will accept that but no one in boxing is as dominant, or explosive.

He's the best man in the sport right now IMO. Treacherous puncher, mean evil personality, and very entertaining.

It's his contract with HBO that stops him from fighting Stevenson.

As far as Ward trying to sign with HBO goes.. we still don't have a message from him. We know nothing, hell he might never sign because HBO is demanding him to fight Kovalev in this agreement
