I dont know, 150k doesn't sound too bad, tough times and all ?
It's not bad from a financial standpoint for HBO. HBO likely lost money on those fights because of Manny's huge purse requirements. But all the fighters combined on the GGG PPV made only a fraction of what Manny alone was paid. 150K X $50 = 7.5mil and it's likely more then that if people bought the HD PPV. Then you add the gate for MSG which sold out 22k seats. So I can't see how HBO lost money they either slightly made money or at worst broke even. But the reason it's still a failure is it proves GGG is not a star capable of carrying a PPV. And totally weakens his leverage with Canelo/Cotto. From a negotiations standpoint and leverage much better off if his last fight were on regular HBO and it did big TV Ratings then doing a PPV that flopped and trying to negotiate a fight with Canelo/Cotto based on those numbers. If neither Canelo/Cotto fight GGG next year this PPV will be cited as the reason. That would make this PPV is a failure.

Numbers are disappointing, I figured with all the hype HBO and the media has been giving him recently he'd at least be able to outdo the projections of 200. I thought 250-300 for a debut would be a good success, but last report I read had it barely reaching 125K in sales, which is pretty dismal, and I'm sure they didn't get a very good ROI if any.

I wish the PPV #'s did better, GGG will be avoided more now because he was a flop this past weekend, Cotto and Canelo regardless of who wins is going to be on major diva status during those negotiations.

Stop. Ward isn't "massive". He's average size for a SMW.. most Middleweights/SMW's average at around 5'10"-6'1". Think about all the top ones in the last decade...

        Hopkins- 6'1
        Jones- 5'11
        Taylor- 6'1
        Pavlik- 6'1
        Calzaghe- 6'0
        Froch - 6'0
        Kessler - 6'0
        Ward - 6'0
        Abraham - 5'10

Ward isn't "MASSIVE". He is literally average height for Middleweight/SMW.. And GGG is size wise is a Middleweight. The guy doesn't even want to go down to fight Canelo/Cotto because he can't make the weight. We need to stop with the fans trying to protect GGG lol.

LOL, Can you say FLOP. LOL A-side my ass. Roc-nation or Goldenboy are gonna walk in and bend lil g over the table if he wants to make that fight. With all that crap his team were talking, they are gonna pay or he's gonna have to grow a pair and face his boogieman WARD. People knew he was facing a CAN. If you wanted a big drama show, you should've tuned in to A&E. He drew less than PBC. Floyd fought Berto and sold 400K MORE than lil g. LOL. This news has made my week.

Its okay-ish but for the hype we expect he was building its a bit of a let-down.

If only we could change his birth certificate, work on his accent change it to a Texan type of accent and say he is from USA or maybe even change him into a Mexican then he'd have been hitting much greater numbers.
Fact is this is a nationalistic, race driven sport and GGG is trying to tap into the casual market and make the other side of boxing fans put aside the national differences and root for him easier said than done.

Excuses, excuses...He can stop fighting CANS. How about that as a reason. Werent guys on here talking about PBC not getting fans because of mis-matches? Now its some other excuse, oh...YOURE PLAYING THE RACE CARD

Well it could be worse he could be Andre Ward who SHOULD be a massive name in USA but isn't
Won a gold medal - Check
                Won super six - Check

                Known in USA - x

That is significantly worse, I'm not defending anything I said the numbers should be better but you can't deny the numbers would be higher If he was American, Mexican, British or Puerto Rican but for a first PPV hopefully HBO can promote him better and build on that number.

I don't buy that. If so how do you explain how a filipino became one of the biggest cash cows in boxing? There was a time when Manny's English was worse then GGG's right now. Manny Pacquiao was able to cross over to americans and mexicans that have no nationalistic reason to root for him

Only repeating what I read on here when people are trying to defend his actions. He fights nothing but cans, and when a P4P guy calls him out, he decides to fight another CAN...He's had HBO promoting him for years now, and this is all he could do, because boxing fans dont care about him fighting nobodies, Floyd and Pac moved up for better comp, but not this guy and now hes gonna have to fight Ward and lose or pay at the negotiations table when Cotto or Canelo pull in massive ppv #s. Now thats a ppv I'm going to buy, in HD

Just because Manny did doesn't mean GGG will. Besides, Manny had huge wins under his belt long before he blew up.

Maybe GGG needs a couple of those.
