I have no idea really about TV numbers and such, but they didn't seem too bad.

Any idea how many PPV's Canelo sold on debut ?

Chavez wasnt, Gatti wasnt, Barrera wasnt, most fighters arent. Just bc youre a good fighter doesnt make the average person want to trade theyre saturday night to watch a fight. That takes special well marketed in America fighter. The Klitscho dont fight on ppv here but well paid. GGG doesnt have options or.named opponents to ever be ppv star. But thats ok
I dont know much about PPV, I guess we will hear confirmation from K2.

      But good point about Mayweather/Berto.

Whether the ppv did 97k or 150k, it flopped on the US ppv market. The upside is he still sold out MSG with fans from all over the country at a time where en****** like the PBC & Andre Ward can't get half as much attendance with free tickets. Had this fight been on regular HBO, K2 & GB would've been bragging about a ratings success along with the over $2mill gate success.

Back to the grind. Golovkin still has options, he can see if Canelo is serious and meet him at 155 or hit Europe/Asia as a 3 belt-champion. The Johnson fight would be a major event back in Kazakhstan. The Lee/Saunders winner would be a major fight in the UK.

Personally I don't want Golovkin/Alvarez yet. Golovkin got no credit vs Lemieux because Lemieux was too unestablished. Beating Alvarez next would just be picking more unripened fruit. Let Alvarez develop a better legacy like Tito did before BHop. Let Canelo beat Cotto 2x, then move up to 160 and beat guys like Heiland, Chudinov before fighting GGG so people might think he has a chance.

As a side-note, with Golovkin doing poor ppv numbers, and Ward only getting 300k to watch him on free tv, their ppv probably would've done like Jones/Toney at 300-400k.

[QUOTE=deathofaclown;16158690]I have no doubt it would, but it still probably wouldn't do even half of what GGG v Cotto/Canelo would do.
          QUOTE]

Oh you're being too lenient, it wouldn't do a 1/10 of what Cotto/Canelo would bring in...lol

His PPV debut was the Floyd Mayweather fight.

He flopped hard. He turned down a fight vs Ward a p4p fighter to fight a can ON PPV, so he got what he deserved. He is not a 1mil PPV boxer only the anti Mayweather crowd had hoped he'd be a big seller. but HE FLOPPED!
I think it's fair to say it did under what you need to be a superstar, but to say that it's a failure is pretty bad relative to what the real circumstances are.

I mean if someone realistically thought it would do only 150K and he meets that, then that's actually a good start. IT shows he has a solid fanbase who'll watch him despite Lemiuex being unknown and that with the help of Cotto/Canelo, he can be a future PPV fighter pulling in like 400-600K viewers in some fights.

                Really ?

OK, lets not talk about that then

Apparently 97k PPV buys is the number that was just released.

Probably a little less that they expected.

It is possible that figure does not necessarily indicate it was a flop.

                Not sure.

I bet the same people that said Mayweathers last fight was a flop will spin these numbers as a success. Golovkin has a long way to be a PPV star but he'll probably be one in a few years.

I ordered the fight and I enjoyed the card. Two of my fav fighters in GGG and lil roman were fighting and it was only 50$ . My original plan was to go to some bar and watch it but none where showing it, that probably has a lot to do with those numbers.

Not sure, but someone said that Cotto's PPV debut sold 60k.

I just checked, and Angulo was Canelo's 2nd PPV and it sold 350k.

It was called a HUGE success, so they likely would have been happy with 250k.

Canelo had a huge advantage following up on the Mayweather fight.

Considering that, is 100k really that bad ?

I know nothing about this stuff, and its hard to find shht on the internet here.

But if 100k is seen as a flop, how was Cotto successful starting with 60k ?

Surely 100k is a stable, if not solid, platform to build on ?
