  • Be honest, do GGG fans really think he can beat Ward and why?

People get all emotional when this subject comes up, especially GGG die hard fans

I like both fighters, different styles but the best in their divisions

He is a good fighter but his resume isn't amazing

He is easy to hit on the elite level, has good skills and good jab

If the fight was at 164-170 I just don't see GGG beating Ward

Ward is taller, longer reach, better on the inside, has a better jab, is probably physically stronger. The only thing GGG has on him is power and a growing fan base

IMO Ward clearly beat him because he can fight any where in the ring and he adapts mid fight better than anyone not named Mayweather.

I explained my case. Whats you guys position

    Height-ward
    Reach-ward
    Inside game-ward
    Power-Golovkin
    Physical strength-arguable
    Better jab-golovkin
    Outide game-arguable
    Chin-golovkin

In this fight,I only see ward winning by making it a close, grappling, dirty fight, and winning a close but controvertial fight on points. If he decides to fight golovkin at a distance,I wouldn't be surprised if golovkin sets up his jab,and starts landing on ward. Even up close and dirty, ward would have to be careful with golovkins left to the body, and short right uppercut. It's honestly a 50-50 fight from a technical standpoint, but once you add gggs power into the mix,od say its 55-45 in favor of golovkin.

Ppl get so emotional they make threads on how a bigger, quicker, taller, longer not to mention Light Heavyweight can beat a middleweight....Bad way to start a thread and not look like the emotional one.

Anyway on the question, well there's too many questions left to know about Ggg against elite competition and at 168. He hasn't faced any so you assuming he would get tagged is unjustifiable. Right now no I don't think he would win but we'll c how he looks up in weight.

Ward may have a faster jab, but not a better jab. Golovkin's is accurate, purposeful, and hard as ****. His jab is damaging punch, not a setup shot like Ward's. I would also posit that Gennady takes a shot better than Ward does, although Ward's defense has kept his chin from being tested very often.

But neither of these factors are the reason I think Gennady can beat Andre.

I think Gennady can beat Ward for two reasons:

          1. Regardless of how he is described by his detractors, he is a smart fighter who can adjust his style based on the guy in front of him and will prepare properly for Ward. He and Abel will come up with a gameplan that will win the fight against the better boxer, much like Kov and John Jackson did against B-Hop (not the same situation, but just for the sake of comparison).

          2. Dude's a machine. He will throw hard shots for 12 rounds and never give Ward a break. I don't see Gennady's offense being shut down by Ward's defense either, like what happened to many of Floyd's opponents. If Ward is slipping the jab, Golovkin starts going to the body. If Andre's ducking the left hook, Gennady starts feinting that shot and throwing a straight right down the middle. He will not let Ward breathe, and he will not get tired.

Now we can only hope that the Cotto-Canelo winner fights him, and then he can move up to 168, take on a Groves/Jack type fighter first, and then bring on Ward.

He can beat him. He will beat him.

Golovkin has the power to hurt anyone at at 168, he is just that powerful... but only if he lands. I think some fans genuinely believe Golovkin will find it easy to land shots on Andre, which is simply never the case. Andre controls range/distance just about as good as anyone in the sport, other than Floyd (if you don't consider him retired).

That is the problem here. Everyone understands Golovkin's power but not everyone understands Andre's control of range, and if they do, they don't understand it well enough.

I dont know who would win to be honest. That's what makes this matchup so intriguing. Both have strengths that would cause problems for each other. It just sucks that they are now 2 weight classes apart. The winner of this fight will never get full credit as one of them will have to be at a weight disadvantage for this to happen.

GGG is a true MW. If Ward was a true SMW a catchweight of 164 would have been a fair meeting point for both fighters. Yes we can go back and forth all day about "well GGG was willing to fight so and so at 168 doe!", but lets just be logical for a seconds. CW's are primarily for 2 fighters who are 1 weight class apart. Its to even the playing field for BOTH fighters. This is nothing new and has been going on for decades.

As it stands Ward is fighting in the LHW division. I would like to see GGG move up to SMW once he unifies as planned and hopefully Ward can meet him there. That's if he can still make SMW.

Darnell Boone’s a good puncher, but he’s a slug. He’s not on that level. For a guy [like Boone] to hurt you like that, that means something’s wrong here. (c) abel sanchez
