If you truly have 20 years in the sport as you said then you should know GGG going to 168 to fight Ward isn't a lose/lose situation. Unless his undefeated record and KO streak is really all that he is.

    • let's not forget that 150k was the stated target. we were all hoping for more but no one is getting fired or whatever because of this. everyone got paid

If he goes up to 168 and fights a bigger man at an uncomfortable weight and loses, he'll get absolutely no credit from anyone, he wont make much money (because Ward doesn't sell right now), and he'll lose any hype he has accumulated as a fighter.

If he beats Ward at 168, his Risk/Reward ratio goes through the roof - no other popular fighter will ever fight him because they'll know that they will likely lose AND Golovkin is still not popular enough.

It's a lose-lose proposition for him right now.
Wut. I don't believe that, its not uncommon for fighters move up for marque fights. Crawford fought hard hitting Prescott at 140 and got his career a good boost out of it.

Sorry my friend. Your reply was IMO kind of underhandedly negative. But if you truly had good intentions and were trying to compliment me then my apologies I took it the wrong way.

I did think it would do better. Not amazingly better but just little. I just think he's going to have a hard time getting an American audience because he is not American and he truly is an unknown outside of hardcore fans(who are the ones who buy PPV).

Cool. I guess my reputation precedes me. I have been known to do stuff like that, but its never on purpose.

If you saw my response to j0zef I said similar. Anyone that suggested what you and he posted was immediately called a racist and a GGG hater.

I think you both have valid points. There are some GGG fans now using these as excuses after doing the above.

He is by no means done. IMO his best bet is Canelo winning. I can't see Cotto fighting him if he wins.

why isnt ward a ppv star? He is American, has a waaaaaaaay better resume and is a better fighter than ggg. It's an excuse......Wilder is a another example of an American Olympic medallist that isn't a ppv star......he is a knockout artist and has a waaaaaaaay more interesting personally than GGG, plus he's a heavyweight.

Well the reason Ward is not that big of a success is because of his style(which is considered boring), he is not an explosive fighter and his personality. He is kind of a bland boring person. Mix all of those things together and you get what Ward is now.

With Wilder he is slowly becoming big. He just won a piece of the heavyweight title, so him becoming a huge star is still there. He just needs to fight bigger and better guys.

I do have 20 years in the sport (easily verifiable), and I can ASSURE you that at this moment in time, GGG going to 168 and fighting Ward is without a doubt a lose-lose proposition.

                  • 150k isn't all sunshine and roses with there being solid reasons why the fight would have done those numbers. Like I said earlier I am sure they broke even and even made a little bit when everything is taken into account, so if they made money (no matter how little) it is not all that bad either.

What sucks for Golovkin fans is the dude that talked the most **** about this sort of topic just dipped on ya'll, leaving you guys to carry his water for all the people that want to get after him. I hope you guys remember that if he ever shows up again.
