Yea being a Floyd fan here at NSB is a bad thing, but you have his unreasonable fanboys to thank for that. IMO his fanboy base are the worse out of all fanboy bases. In there opinion Floyd cant and never does wrong and saying he does something wrong is sacrilege. Its almost a sin for them to say anything wrong about him.

I think that is a generalization. Its ok to not think Floyd did something if you really believe that. Besides, a lot of the things posted about Floyd are done so because posters just want to see him lose at something.

You are going wayyy too far with your scenario.

Golovkin can go up to 168, beat Ward, and on top of having ALL boxing press and hardcore fans calling him the best in the game, he would still have the position he enjoys now at 160 (mandatory spots to unify all the belts). That is a fact.

I think what you mean to say is that going up to 168 is not worth the risk, because he should cash in all the high profile easy fights he can before graduating to high profile hard fights.

He is already facing an uphill battle getting other middleweight champs, and ultimately Cotto-Canelo winner, to fight him.

Are you going to say with a straight face that if he beat Ward, that would not affect his ability to land meaningful fights at 160?

If he were to beat Ward, he could kiss goodbye any chance of getting the Cotto-Canelo winner (and the revenue and exposure that goes with it).

If Ward had Mayweather type revenue numbers, the argument would change. But he doesnt. So basically what GGG would be doing is giving an 8 pound advantage to Ward, splitting revenue 50-50 with a guy who cant draw ants to a picnic, fighting a guy with a style that is tough to look good against, and if he does solve the puzzle and beat him, it does him no favors in his current division, and likely costs him his biggest potential payday. Its a fools errand.....

I wasn't expecting huge numbers. There were no real superstars on the entire card. Golovkin is close, but not yet.

He can't get the fights WITHOUT losing to Ward. fighting him, beating him, and having the fight sell well on PPV (again it would outsell Lemuiex), might make Canelo or Cotto more willing to fight him because they will make more money.

It also may entice Froch to come out of retirement or get fights with the other 168 lbers.

While GGG deserves a chance to unify the MW belts, he isn't entitled to anything.You guys need to face the reality that GGG may never get the fights he wants. If that is the case he will have to fill that void with fights.

I just can't believe you think beating Ward would have a negative impact on his career. Beating Ward means so much more than unifying the MW belts right now.

Seriously though, why did people think the fight would have high sales? Marquez and Bradley involved bigger draws and higher stakes; the fight failed to reach 400k. Mayweather fought a Lemieux level opponent and it reached just over 500k.

When people start putting things into perspective, 150k sounds about right. People will make a lot of noise on the internet, because it is free, but when it comes down to it people will not purchase a product that isn't worth it.

Also think boxing fans need to stop with the bull**** of ''If you don't buy this, you're not a real fan." It is the sort of talk that encourages promoters to rip fans off with overpriced mismatches.

I'm going to be honest - I head NO IDEA a thread about Gennady's PPV numbers would generate 50+ pages on NSB. I didn't think NSB would care THIS much about this PPV total buys. I always thought that kind of stuff was for the whole May vs Pac craziness that kinda carried over into Canelo & Cotto.

The whole point of this PPV was to get Gennady a unification bout and if it did big numbers that would have been a bonus for him and K2. Getting the Lemieux fight was not easy and that did what they had to do to get him in the ring (by sweetening the pot, i.e more money, PPV, PPV cut) otherwise this would have been a regular HBO fight. I'm sure part of it was to test the PPV waters as well so to speak to see where they stand - could GGG sell big against an unknown fighter like Lemieux? The answer is no, not right now. That information is important to know when negotiations begin with Canelo or Cotto. They have to know their fighters value or else they could overplay their card.

What's crazy to me is that I don't think any boxing insider was expecting this PPV to be big. I think 200k-250k was the target area with only about 100k to break even. So if it missed the mark of what was expected to be low numbers, why would it be such a big deal to the boxing community? Strange. I was discussing with people before the numbers came out that the Mets-Cubs playoff game was on at the same time, which did huge numbers - 8 million people watching live. There probably is some crossover there, maybe that effected the PPV buys a bit but regardless, this was never going to be a big PPV (anything over 300k is big in boxing).

you are conflicting "legacy" with "marketability". Sure, beating Ward looks great on a Hall of Fame ballot, but the average person on the street couldnt pick Ward out of a lineup. The fight does NOTHING for GGG's marketability and exposure, which is why he desperately needs the Cotto-Canelo winner.
