Mark my words. If GGG faces Johnson in Feb, a fight vs Cotto or Canelo isnt happening in May or June.
They can really have everything set up for the promotion part well before then since you can agree on that stuff even before GGGs fight in Janurary. And GGG has almost 3 months to recover and train so that shouldn't be bad. Most fighters train 6 weeks, so he'll have plenty of time for training camo.

I'm not looking forward to this. I'd rather watch Johnson vs. Lemieux/Eubank/Heiland/Magomedov. GGG should take a break and try to get the Cotto/Canelo winner next.

i would prefer to see johnson face the winner of n'dam-soliman before getting a shot at triple g. but i guess andy lee won't be ready to fight golovkin in q1 and we all know that stuff about cotto or alvarez fighting golovkin immediately is a bunch of crap

It's a mandatory, people. He takes care of the mandatory now and save himself the headache later. Plus it will avoid any scheduling conflicts for Cotto/Canelo.

Plus, I don't see anybody better wanting to fight him. Best we got is Eubank Jr.

this is going to play against him..canelo or cotto will do wat wilder done and not wait for him...all his excuses to duck andre ward will be exposed...he needs to sit out of for that belt...not a fight that we need anyways..just like the rest of his resume

What GGG needs to do is wait for the winner of the Cotto/Canelo bout and start calling them out right there and then. Apply the pressure and let it be known that you're ready willing and able to start negotiations right away.

If he were to take this stay busy fight then either Cotto or Canelo will take a stay busy fight and round and round we go. We'll have another Wilder/Povetkin on our hands.
No povetkin was always going to fight in Russia in November no matter what WBC ordered the talks between two camps to take place October 24th so why should wilder sit on sidelines until then? Could of been better comp though

Johnson in Feb and Lee in June is a decent back-up plan if the Cotto-Canelo winner elects to vacate, but my guess is that if the Cotto-Canelo winner agrees to enter negotiations then GGG will not take an interim bout, and will go straight into the May-June mega fight.

I dont believe they would risk the big fight with a possible injury, a cut, a bad performance, or god forbid a loss. No way.......

I'm pretty sure the assumption is that whoever wins in Nov will not fight until May (for ex cinco de mayo). That will be 3 month breaks (Oct->Feb->May) and will keep Golovkin on pace for 4 fights/yr.
