Team GGG has contract with WBC and Cotto/Canelo

But I actually think everyone could be looking at that fight the wrong way.

According to the information you provided the other day, if the Cotto/Canelo winner is stripped Golovkin will not have to fight the best contender for the WBC strap, he will be elevated.

Well I think that the WBC will strip Cotto, but not Canelo.
For the fight to be for the WBC strap, Cotto/Canelo had to get a step aside agreement with the WBC.

And WBC has recently said they got insurance from both Cotto and Canelo that they will fight GGG.

    WBC isn't playing this time.

I believe they will uphold their deal, but hey when it comes to sanctioning bodies (except the IBF), they typically do whatever they feel like doing (which is usually whatever makes them the most money)......
WBC is on a mission. They've made it abundantly clear to both camps what is at stake.

Not all tickets were that cheap. Man you guys repeat BS all the time to downplay GGG success.

    The tickets we priced $500, $300, $200, $100 and $50.

    Now stop repeating Bull****.

The clue is in this very article, combined with the fact that the WBC are inconsistent at best.

This article stated that the winner would " risk " being stripped.

I think that if Cotto beats Canelo, and Golovkin refuses to give him a catchweight, then Cotto will be stripped and Golovkin will be elevated.

But if Canelo wins, I think they will petition the WBC to allow him some voluntary defences.....
      This would not be crazy.

I think the WBC has shown a lot of favoritism to Chavez in the past & I would not be surprised if he went above & beyond for another popular Mexican fighter. With Canelo doing all these 155 fights & GGG having never fought below 158.5 & seemingly making a lot of noise about no catchweighting I feel like terms could be harder to make then some of us have anticipated with Canelo vs GGG.

And lets not forget Oscar has warned Canelo against a few fights at this point & Canelo vetoed Oscar so far. It wouldn't be shocking to me if he suggested to Canelo now isn't the time to fight GGG & Canelo listened this time since a catchweight might not be doable & perhaps he's not ready for a true MW fight.

You don't think that's their plan? GGG is chasing ghost on those matches.

          Potential Golovkin fights-
          • vs Lee/Saunders winner - would sell out O2 arena in London w/ 20,000.
          • vs T.Johnson in Kazakhstan would sell out the new arena w/ 15,000 or South Korea w/ 13,000.
          • vs Murata in Japan w/ Gonzalez on the undercard they'd fill up the Tokyo Dome with 40-50,000.
          • vs Korobov or Fedor Chudinov in Russia would be major

I think he has some bitterness over his time in Germany. His tv ratings there are still very strong during their prime-time (2.3mill tuned in for his Murray fight).

I think its unlikely that HBO would be willing to travel to any of those places at this point.

                      I could accept that.

Golovkin would be showing Canelo the same respect he demanded from Ward.

Its good when boxing is the winner.

Much better than refusing a cw for 153lb Cotto, knowing he will stripped.
