What is there to dislike about Gennady Golovkin?

I found him bored in this last fight. He talked about fights about streetfights but then he got in the ring like a #0 LOSS businessman who is afraid to lose his zero

Very humble and nice guy who wants to please the fans and is looking for all the big fights. People admittedly don't want to fight him and that's not his fault. He's an immensely skilled boxer and not just a face first power puncher which NSB love (345-5 as an amateur and an olympic silver medalist).

You can't beat the best opponents if you are not willing to fight them. GGG is unwilling to fight the best opponent available to him, which is Andre Ward. The clowns on this site have been riding Mayweather's ass for years because he fought weak completition, but the truth is Mayweather fought the best completition in five weight divisions and beat them all. Two of those opponents which the clowns on this site called weak when they fought Mayweather are fighting in a superfight on Nov. 21 and all the clowns who criticized Mayweather for fighting them are now praising this fight.

GGG fights nobodies, He refuses to fight quality fighters. That is why he is disliked!

Simple. He lets his camp talk utterly reckless, hoping that his goofy smile and sloppy English is enough to balance things out.

Say what you want about Angel Garcia, whatever comes out of his mouth, Danny "Swift" Garcia is either standing by his father's words or making sure to clarify his own stand (if he and his father aren't on the same page).

When Abel Sanchez was out running his mouth, Golovkin could've stood by Abel's words or pushed his statements back; he did neither, which made him look like a punk, laying the foundation for the hate.

As a professional fighter, Gennady Golovkin hasn't really done all that much (no idea who he defeated to pick up the WBA interim belt, elevated by decree to WBA regular champion, elevated by decree to WBA Super champion, with maybe three fights in his career versus opponents above even C-level).

What bugs me the most about Golovkin is that, without ever actually having to compete against anyone, the media has pushed the guy into being in that p4p conversation.

No he wouldn't. Folks, probably like you, would be hung up on the fact that he's yet to fight anybody, his "world title" is basically a paper championship that he was twice elevated to, and that he was almost 10 years into his professional career without ever actually fighting anyone.

I understand the criticism about the level of his opposition and the complaints about the punch while Lemy was down but Golovkin is an exciting fighter and seems to respectable outside the ring.

Out of curiosity, what style appeals to you then? Do you like watching shoulder rolls and clinches? I'm not being an ass, it's just rare to find a fan who doesn't likw an aggressive fighter.

Who are you referring to? I don't see Golovkin's situation as any different from any other good /potential to be great hyped fighter in history.

1) There is a group that love him and call him the next BIG thing in boxing. This group loves his attitude, his smile but behind that smile is a destroyer, he has skills behind his power, a lo of power, seems willing to fight anybody (at least in public perception), but ultimately this is a business and he'll pick and choose like anyone else.

2) The there is a group that despise the hype and those who praise him. This group recognizes he is good and powerful, but don't warm up to those calling him P4P the best without BIG fights. He is looking good beating guys he's supposed to beat, but that doesn't translate into fighting the best competition. David L is a start, but his legitimacy probably won't kick in until he's fighting a major fight vs someone like Cotto, Canelo to become a bigger PPV star. Beating the likes of Lara or Ward would help put him over the top. Unifying the belts makes him the unquestionable man. He IS capable of those things, but many fans praise him as if he's done all of those things already.

I can only imagine what these boards would have been like when Ali was coming up before fighting Liston. He got the same praise and hate at the same time. Or even Sugar Ray Leonard before fighting Benitez and Duran.

For every one of those you say is "hating" on him #weakcompetition, there is another praising him #lifeaftermayweather. Typical formula. I am on the "he is VERY good and has potential to be great" train and I like to watch him. I recognize his skills, power, ability and desire. However I am not anointing him P4P best or calling him the best middleweight ever...just yet.
