Hard to see a dude with pretty much zero defense beating Kovalev. I suppose it is possible if the guy had an amazing offense but while Fonfara does have a good offense it is certainly not amazing.

Fonfara is a tough dude though and he certainly deserves another crack at the top of the division.

I noticed you are from San Jose?? Me too, Karl st. Story & king used to be my stomping grounds.

Take it easy. And if you can, share a link about Duva & pennies.

His chin is proven. It's just that the repeated shots Kovalev lands would have him in trouble if they fought.

Kovalev fight would be more of a prolonged beating than a blast him out affair.

getting stopped by a journeyman middleweight is definitely something to consider when you're talking about fighting the best puncher in boxing not named gennady. did fonfara improve? sure. is he out of the woods against a puncher like kovalev because he grew a bit and polished his style a bit? of course not. it's a factor.

fonfara is just too stiff to last long. he's not going to take enough steam off of kovalev's combinations to stay on his feet.

i don't see that fight going more than 6 rounds.

Come on, last night was a good slugfest, but not that good, no knockdows or knockout. were they pillow fisted or is Kovalev that strong?

How come they land almost 600 punches and do ****

Fonfara is a great boxer but his defense is far too leaky for him to survive the distance against Killa Kov.
Adonis Stevenson is a bigger sheer puncher than Sergey Kovalev is, and Stevenson couldn't put Fonfara out.

Maybe I'm just not seeing it, but folks are seriously exaggerating Kovalev's perceived power.

i don't think either guy is a big puncher, especially considering that they're LHW, but look at their faces, partciuarly cleverly's...

maybe you had a bad feed. check out the HD pics from bscene [whcih were tremendous, BTW.]

you're not going to see many fighters more beat up than cleverly was at the end of that fight. he looked like a different person. his face will never fully go back to the way it was.

That's because Adonis only has the left hand and doesn't have anything close to the combinations or finishing ability Kovalev does. It's more than power, it's what you do once that power hurts and Kovalev is much, much better at that than Stevenson. And that's assuming Stevenson hits harder than Kovalev, which I don't think he does.

Last night more than anything else should have been a clear sign of how freakishly hard Kovalev hits. Cleverly wasn't aware of his surroundings after 3 and had to be carried to the corner against Kovalev, yet he took that beating last night for 12 and never came close to going down.

Well, he lasted 12 with Stevenson

Compare that when he was weight drained and growing into his body when he lost to Findley in 2.

I agree on the eventual outcome, we just disagree when it will happen.
