You're kidding, right ? He didn't even come close to knock down Cleverly...

No disrespect to Fonfara, he's a top fighter and a good guy. But Kovalev is on another level.

Fonfara is a very exciting fighter, but let's be real here.... As Mayweather would say, there are levels to this game. Kovalev went into Cleverly's backyard, when he was the champion and undefeated, and blew him out in 4 rounds. It should have been a 3rd round KO but Terry O'Connor literally carried Cleverly to his corner at the end of the 3rd.

Anyways Fonfara doesn't have great defense, he's slow, upright, and I think he would get viciously KOed.

There's quite a gap between Kovalev, and even Stevenson, and the other guys at that weight class. It doesn't mean the other fighters are bad, it's just that it's a 2 person weight class. You've got guys like Fonfara and Beterbiev who can make some noise, but I can't see them becoming champions.

Someone who just set a record with getting hit by the most punches is going to last with Kovalev?

              Not likely.

Exactly. This guy couldn't get out of the way of anything. Cleverly fought a dumb fight...he coulda hit fonfara with straight punches all night long.

I agree but it not too unreasonable to match the best fighter in the world that is not named Stevenson or Kovalev with one of the champions. Fonfara has gotten better every fight.

Not unreasonable at all. But I don't think Kovalev is touchable right now. But Fonfara is tough, I just dont think he does anything better than Kovalev.

Maybe this Beterbiev will be the real challenge for Kovalev.
