Comments Thread For: Loeffler Discusses Gennady Golovkin's PPV Future

Gennady Golovkin's bout this Saturday night from the Madison Square Garden against David Lemieux is his first on pay-per-view. Expectations are rather modest for this venture, but it's clear that the goal from K2 Promotions is to establish 'GGG' as the next pay-per-view franchise as the business transitions from the Floyd Mayweather/Manny Pacquiao era.

i think the lemieux fight should have been on regular hbo. it would have reached a wider audience and attracted new fans, whereas the ppv will only reach people who are already fans. golovkin-lemieux on regular hbo would probably have come close to canelo's viewing figures against kirkland. same applies to golovkin-lee if/when that happens next year. unless golovkin-lemieux does crazy numbers, like 400k+, then that should be a regular hbo fight

"clear that he wont be able to fight a champ each time"...and why is that? i havent heard of his sacntioning body mandating anything...

and this just gives more proof that he knows unifying all titles is not excuse to not get the ward fight out of the way for the people

if ward does moves to 175, and that seems to be the case, the fight never happens imo even if ward stays active and undefeated

GGG is just part of the wrong era just like all the mw's before him..hagler..mw is time and time again a division that needs ppl to move up to make it special...jones, toney, hopkins has been the only exception in the last 20-30 years...its too bad bc i think he's more than a power puncher! i think this is the guy finally breaks the kelly pavlik stigma...but he has no one to prove it against...canelo would be ok, but we've seen him beat by a guy 20lbs lighter than him..and no excuse..just be honest with yourself..that A plus fighter some once thought canelo was has turned into just a popular fighter that has boxing politics in his side and problems making weight...

andrade, lara, and jermal charlo would be all good fights for GGG if they move up like SRL, hearns, and duran....they dont have to stay at the weight so dont make that excuse

I would like to see Golovkin become a free agent when his HBO contract is up, that way he could fight on all the networks (HBO, Showtime, PBC etc) He would have opportunities to fight many more big fights.
