I think if he faced Castillo, he could very well lose because of Castillo's chin and stamina, but it could be a very competetive fight. But Cotto?
C'mon, they're the same fighter with different chins lolIMHO, Cotto's only chance is to cut Gatti early and get them to stop it, otherwise Gatti will be too much for Cotto. They are both basically skilled brawlers, and I'd easily give the skill edge to Gatti. I agree that Gatti has never been and never will be a great fighter, and he'd probably lose to pretty much everyone you mentioned, but I just can't see Cotto beating him, he just has too many flaws in his defense.
dude - thats just disrespectful - same fighter, gatti was never the boxer that cotto is, has the ring generalship that cotto has, the body work that cotto can dish out (a body stoppage of dorin doesn't count) and the most blatant thing, the power that cotto has.

i feel that after lamps/merchant said that, after the fight w/ torres, that hes the "next gatti" that the gatti fans that realize that gatti is not as good as they thought have taken that comment and ran with it.

C'mon man, you don't see it?
He looked just like Cotto did against Abdul..whatever his name is when he fought Leija. Gatti doesn't move that well in reverse, but neither does Cotto, and Cotto is a plodder big time when he comes forward, much like Gatti. I can't see how everyone thinks Cotto has so much more power than Gatti, they are pretty much the same size, and I have never seen Cotto put punches together the way Gatti has in so many of his fights. If Gatti came in and tried to box Cotto, I could see where that would be a mistake, but if he came in and fought, I can't see Cotto holding up.

EDIT: I just wanted to add that I don't mean to disrespect Cotto or any of his fans, this is only my opinion.

Understood, and just to point out also I'm a huge Gatti fan and love his heart. I truly consider him the Rudy of boxing, if he had the talent of a Zab he could've been an all time great.

I also think that Cotto is more polished than Gatti, however I do agree with your assesment of Cotto putting his punches together recently. But you have to look at his fights of a couple of years ago to see his fluid combinations. I am of the oppinion that his making weight has taken some polish off of him but that he will return to earlier form at 147lbs.

Cotto has better hand speed than Gatti had and more pop. Gatti has the heart but he has been rocked and floored by multiple fighters, but he still gets up and thats why he is exciting. Cotto has also been rocked by multiple fighters but I think he has also shown heart in that he showed good recuperative ability and actually knocked out the two fighters who rocked him.

My sentiments exactly, I really like Gatti and after he hopefully beats Baldy, it would be nice to have a final farewell fight in AC and retire on top. I also think Gatti has an excellent post fighting career due to his popularity.

I dont want to see Gatti go down the road Holyfield is going, with clearly diminished physical skills and apparent brain damage (at least where speech is concerned).

Yeah I would hate to see that, he's worked hard his whole career, and I think he deserves to enjoy life.

Gotta agree with you there. They put him in too soon versus Tito and ODLH who both gave him hilacious beatings, I think he is a shot fighter. He still has some skills left but its not at the elite A level but more at the B.
