Comments Thread For: Roberto Duran: Canelo is Boxing's New Star, Beats Cotto

Now with the retirement of five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., there is an ongoing debate as to which fighter is going to become the next superstar of boxing.

The legend himself, Hall of Famer Robert "Hands of Stone" Duran, thought very little of Mayweather. He was far from a fan of Mayweather's fighting style and felt the unbeaten pound-for-pound king would have been beaten by the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler and Thomas Hearns.

Finally a legend telling the truth about mayweather. Duran, hearns, leanard, hagler all would have wiped the floor with mayweather. Canelo is not the next star. Crawford, GGG, and Kovalev are the next stars. I am so happy mayweather is gone. Great talent, no balls

I think we all know Cotto is the underdog. And yeah Canelo is the favorite also in becoming the new PPV king. I think he has the fanbase to pull it off. His numbers, 300k+, against Angulo and Lara were very, very impressive. Because you know very well, that 300-350k was solely his name selling the PPV. Angulo was not a top 10 contender, Lara is a very good boxer but people generally dont like watching him(I do, but other fans don't) and would not pay $50 to watch Lara. Plus he has that 2.2million PPV with Mayweather, which shows he was more than just a good dance partner vs the PPV king, he was more than just the B-side there. All in all, I am expecting 800k-1,000,000 ppv buys or more for this fight. Even if Cotto loses, very good first PPV as lead promoter for Roc Nation. They'll probably put Cotto right back in the mix even after a loss, which I think will be a UD loss where it's going to be tough.

Canelo may be Mexico's next star, but I doubt American

Won't eventually become wise to the fact when he faces decent fighters his own size, he looks bad.

Canelo will Vacate the lineal MW belt next year.

That can't but hurt his standing with American fans, who already question him after the Lara fight.

Cotto is gonna lose to Canelo. But then Canelo is gonna vacate that help, showing his ass to everyone.

That bit, and Gokdenboy are scared. They already laying that groundwork for the duck.
