Perfect opportunity for the Ward team to file the lawsuit as the Lemieux fight is just a week away. Boxing fans need to get to the bottom of this.

First of all the rising star is GGG, with a potential "Super-Fight" against either Cotto or Canelo looming. Ward is not a star to the general public, plus he is dull even to us the boxing fans. GGG does not need Ward, period.Comment

He has been inactive, and it sounds like Team Ward have been undecided about his weight, even following the Smith fight at 172. It could come down to options at SMW, including Golovkin, but this will most likely hinge on how easy it is for Ward to make 168.
I guessed earlier that he was struggling, but I could have been wrong there, especially if Ward actually considered a catchweight for Golovkin as was recently reported. If it was killing Ward to make 168 he would have no long-term aspirations at SMW, he would likely need to move up now.
It is a bit frustrating, but the weight/opponent for his next fight will likely indicate Wards future.
My guess is that he would likely persevere at 168 if a Golovkin fight was realistic..... but that fight aint gonna happen, and I'm not sure what Degale/Jack offer considering that neither are established.
If he can make 170 without too many problems in his next fight, he should take Degale after that, and then move to LHW.
But you're right in that Ward needs to do something significant. He is not a draw, and is not appealing to most casual fans, so he has to dominate divisions to get any real recognition.
As a fan of technical fighters, and a Ward fan, I will struggle to accept domination of lower-level opponents when I know that he is capable of so much more.
If he is staying at 168, I expect a tuneup next then nothing less than Degale or Jack, although Degale is the only real threat at 168 imho.
Considering that Ward will NOT fight Kovalev first up following a move to 175, and you are crazy if you think he will, he's too smart for that..... he will want to acclimate at LHW, so maybe he should move up now considering that Golovkin wont fight him and Degale is the only realistic threat at SMW.
Duva admitted that Kovalev will remain inactive for the near future, which provides a convenient opportunity and time-frame for Ward to move up and adjust to LHW.
I now believe that they were still undecided following the Smith fight, and that the decision to move to 175 was dependent on the possibility of a Golovkin fight..... if so, they have likely made a decision to move to LHW, in which case expect 2 more tuneups and then Kovalev.
Just a guess, could be wrong.Comment

f Smith was rusty, what was ward after damn near a two year layoff? Is he not allowed a tune up after two years off? What was Danny Geale for ggg? What was Angulo for Canelo? I guess when you're a top fighter like Ward, you can't be held to the same standards as the hype jobs mentioned aboveComment
