Great post. Both of you. That's a good point. I think it also comes down to the promoters, in the case of boxing. They have kind of helped that notion grow by neglecting certain fighters after a loss. If GBP does the opposite and continues to put up their fighters after losses with full support, hopefully that will turn things around for boxing.Comment

Excellent analysis !!
There was an underlying SLAM on May Jr for ducking prime elites when it counted!!!
Jr will never live it down and there will be many that won't let him as well.
But
He can pay people to talk good about him till the money's gone and then he will have the literacy with the ability to be the mascot for KFCComment

Not really trying to get in the middle of you all's conversation, but... What constitutes boxing in your opinion? Is it two people in the middle of the ring just standing there going blow for blow until one falls? Or is it one person beating the living day lights out of the other person? I'm just curious? Are you a fan of boxing or a fan of fighting?
I just happen to be a fan of boxing and I get no enjoyment in seeing two skill-less people standing in the ring going blow for blow, with each person only knowing how to deflect a punch with his or her face. To me I can go to any neighborhood USA and find this action. No need for a TV
I also get no enjoyment from obvious mis-matchers. Now just because I may have heard of one of the fighters and not the other does not mean it's a mis-match.
If one fighter is not trying to nullify the others attack or one fighter is not trying to use a jab to set-up a power shot it's not boxing to me.
Boxing is about violence but its more about controlled violence. In other words its about thinking and being strategic in your attack and your defense in my opinion.
I'll take all those pawing and nullifying type fights you don't find entertaining over two idiots swinging for the fences that can't get out of the way of the others punch type of tough man competition fights you seem to crave any day. Because to me that's just fighting and anybody with two hands can do it. Everybody can't be a boxer (traditional or boxer-puncher).Comment

Oscar gets a lot of crap on this board, and some of it is for good reason. One cannot discount the fact that when he was fighting he took chances and fought the best. Win or lose he earned respect for that. In the early days of GBP you saw that philosophy as well. It was Shaefer/Haymon that came in and changed their strategy where guys decided not to take risks and duck the biggest challenges.
Good to see him getting back to that.Comment
