Comments Thread For: Kellerman: Golden Boy Has Right Approach For Boxing

Carson, California- When Golden Boy Promotions entered the mid-way point of this year, their three flagship fighters - Lucas Matthysse, David Lemiuex, and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez - were all coming off very good victories.

Now with Matthysse suffering an unexpected knockout loss last Saturday night, it could signal the possibility of their three best fighters getting beaten before the year is over. Lemiuex is a heavy underdog against Gennady Golovkin on October 17th. Although Canelo is the favorite against Miguel Cotto, many experts consider it a 50-50 fight on November 21. Should both of them get beaten, a lot will be said regarding the future of Golden Boy Promotions

Remember when the Floyd fanboys were pro GBP when Floyd/Haymon/Shaefer were on board? LOL.

Its the same model UFC uses. Pit your top guys against one another. A loss means little so long as the top guys keep fighting tough matchups.

Only in boxing do the fans and networks turn their backs on a fighter after a few losses. In UFC a fighter can have 6 losses and still sell out an arena. Why? because little stock is put into losses there. Even the best MMA artists can lose on any given night. But they bounce back and get right back into the octagon against tough competition.

That's a good point. I think it also comes down to the promoters, in the case of boxing. They have kind of helped that notion grow by neglecting certain fighters after a loss. If GBP does the opposite and continues to put up their fighters after losses with full support, hopefully that will turn things around for boxing.

Have no problem with GBP, much respect to Eric Gomez who wasn't getting enough credit when Schaefer was running things at GBP. Gomez is a excellent matchmaker so I'm sure he had a lot to do with those stacked Cards that GBP was providing the fans a couple of years ago

But yeah, all they have to do is keep adding talent and I think they will be OK, will they ever get to the level they once was back in 2013/2014, probably not but a thinner roster forces them to go for Quality instead of Quantity, something that I do think PBC Lacks right now.

i agree to some extent. but you still got to build stars to have big fights. Well see haymon has been bashed and i get some of it others i think its just ridiculous cause even when he gives the fights he should like santa cruz mares or broner porter or broner maidana or jacobs quillen or garcia peterson and garcia khan and garcia matyssee now it sounds like porter thurman and wilder jennings are a few examples hell even guerrero thurman or gary russel lamenchenko or degale dirrel i could go on and on with how its obvious haymon is now starting to make the big fights it just seems like even when haymon does what we want and gives us the good fights people complain. if u want haymon to make big fights quit ignoring the good fights he does make and make it worth it for them to make these fights.

I dont know i love that gbp is willing to make these fights dont get me wrong but its not like even his top fighters have not gotten in the ring with guys they are ridiculously favored against. Not only that I think when haymon does what u guys want thats still not enough for u cause in the end you dont want the big fights u just want him to fail

Its that they dont pay attention to those fights. They concentrate on the showcase fights and think thats all PBC has shown which isnt true but whatever just show me the fights. Im watching on any network by any promoter

Why would anyone have a problem with Golden Boy putting their fighters in the fights fans want to see. Real risky fights. Only Haymon nut huggers want to see their fighters protected and fed bum after bum to inflate their records. Boxing is about the quality of fights not the amount of non competitive wins you can rack up by avoiding tough opponents.

lol, I thought that the second PBC was made. Irony of it is, if you dont like Haymon you are a racist, but its ok to back Haymon because he is black and like no others.
