Comments Thread For: Lemieux Coach Downs Sanchez's Boasts of GGG's Ring IQ

The perception heading into the October 17 middleweight title fight showdown between Gennady Golovkin and David Lemieux is a typical pre-fight prediction for any fight involving two punchers - the first one to land their shot wins the fight.

Given that both fighters are well aware of the other's power, each side sees different intangibles being key in emerging victorious at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

They can try to hype it as much as they want but Lemieux doesnt stand a chance, not with that chin.

Lemieux shot is jabbing on the distance then unleashing on the later rounds where golovkin's face is his only guard

Golovkin is 1 in taller and has the same reach.

Half the reason I comment so much is because half of the people here no so little about what GGG does in the ring. They quite literally think he is all powerful punches.

They don't, cant, or do not bother, to see his aggressive defense. The footwork that keeps in balanced. The switching stance in the middle of power combos, the use of jab both offensively and defensively, the way he neutralizes his opponents power.

GGG has been hit, all fighters are. GGG has not been down, and not even stunned professionally. This is not purely because of a good chin, although that helps.

Its sad you cant see what he is doing, because it is a fun style to watch.

I agree. GGG has an aggressive defense like a Chavez Sr or even Tyson. He's really good at rolling with shots to take steam off of them and the switching you mentioned is known as "shifting". Not many do it anymore. I think Duran used to do it a lot as well as Hagler...both of which also had aggressive defenses.

If Lemieux's gameplan is trying to outjab Golovkin, he's definitely going to lose. His best bet is to employ something along what Porter does. He's not going to outbox Gennady.

So you are taking both Lemieux and Viloria? You could make some serious cash if you bet that way and both long shots win. I seriously doubt both win though, but good luck man.
