I'm gonna be honest and say I can't jump on a fighter's bandwagon after one fight. (Can you say "Buster Douglas"?). However, hearing Postol compared to Klitschko is amusing. Count me among the haters of Klitschko's style of protecting that glass chin at all costs, even if it means ruining the fight for the fans. If this is what Postol's style is all about, I guess I probably wouldn't want to watch too many of Postol's fights either.
How about we give Postol some credit instead of degrading Matthysse?

"Try to take his head off", he did try to go for the KO. Pretty accurate imo as he was pressing for the KO thus getting countered and dropped. Predictions don't always go to plan, I wrote a blog just before Ruslan-Lucas and I got it spot on. I predicted all 3 scorecards for Bradley-Vargas. You win some, you lose some and that's just boxing. Before the fight anyone picking Postol was subject to ridicule. Most of the lucas fans didn't give Postol any credit. All they said was he hadn't beaten anyone, has only 11ko's, etc etc.
Knowing this, why would you expect the post fight comments to be about Postol? everything pre fight was about Lucas so most of the post fight conversation will be about him as well.
Just a side note, I think your post below, in hindsight, is rather funny.Comment

Both fighters used VADA testing for this fight, so if any PEDS were involved they would have caught it. Postol derserves credit, but his strength and conditioning coach Gavin McMillan also deserves credit as well. Postol has the same duo in trainer and s&c coach that Cotto has. I didn't know McMillan was working with Postol and when I saw him in the ring walk, I knew Postol would be in great shape for this fight. The man is proving himself with yet another fighter. First GSP in MMA, and then Cotto in boxing, and now Postol. He may just be the best s&c coach in the business these days!I think Postol has been taking some juice for the last fights, as usual when boxers get more attention. Better trainig, better corner, better "suplements". He's an elite boxer. A little bit of steroids can give you much more power than you ever had. Did you see his veins everywhere?Comment

No doubt. Picking Lucas isn't the issue. Its those Lucas fans that wouldn't listen to anyone that gave Postol a chance. As such, the talk now is going to be about Lucas shortcomings, not Postol."Try to take his head off", he did try to go for the KO. Fair enough, due to the lack of intellectual posters/too many trolls Postol will get less credit than he deserves.Comment

Lucas is a power puncher and power punchers have the very worst and least knowledgeable fans on NSB.
A lot of Lucas fans had only seen Postol fight Aydin on HBO. They didn't know much about him but assumed he wasn't good because he hadn't been on HBO a lot.
during the fight and immediately afterwards, many of those same guys talked about "clinching" instead of giving Postol credit for the work he put in and to deflect from lucas quitting.
Non lucas fans are giving Postol credit even whilst clowning lucas about quitting.Comment

Only during defeat will stans become humble. Previous to this OP would clown everyone else that was compared to Lucas. Faaaakkk you!!Comment

Thought Postol had some cynical tactics, but mostly I was disappointed in Matthysse. He couldn't fire from the outside because he had the jab in his face. Inside, he was smothering his work. His only hope was to fight from mid range and he rarely did that. He was either on the outside eating jabs, or in a clinch. No inbetween. He doesn't have a lick of defense. He should have ducked and weaved his way mid range and jacked postol's jaw (which was in the air) , but Matthysse cant duck and weave at all! Very frustrating fight and him quitting was just the culmination of that frustration.Comment

Fights are won and lost in the head and to me, it was clear Matthysse was in "no mas" territory before he literally checked out of the fight. Postol came to not just fight, but to win, and so he imposed his will. Only time will tell what kind of competitor he will be and what will become of Matthysse. But unless I miss my guess they're both on trains headed in opposite directions....Comment
