They could have made Kovalev vs. Sullivan Barrera (both are with Main Events).

Seems HBO wasn't willing to take it though.

Kovalev should never have signed the "exclusive" contract with HBO. They prevented the Adonis Stevenson fight, and now they are preventing Sergey from fighting at all.
"sources" talking about Barrera/Ward being a possibility. Being as it's doing the whole unnamed sources thing, I'm not gonna put too much weight into it... but since I think the Kovalev/Ward talks are serious, I can see main events trying to stick one of their LHW guys in there

As for HBO, they just had the option if it was picked up in Russia, it ultimately falls on Russian tv/promoters.

Duva is putting all her eggs in the basket of being able to fight Ward, hoping that they've mucked up the process for long enough that the IBF doesn't strip Kovalev of their belt when she also avoids the Beterbiev mandatory (if the WBO was actually on the up and up, Fonfara-Cleverly winner would be a fight away from also taking the WBO belt from Kovalev too).

        If Ward goes elsewhere, lol.
I dont know man. Look, you could be right..... but Duva is smart, lets not be too condescending here.

IF she has put all of her eggs into the Ward basket, what will happen when Ward breaks them?

Duva knows the game, and she knows Ward.

Ward will not shut up about Golovkin because he knows that he will win that fight..... Duva cannot make those assurances with anywhere near as much certainty when it comes to Ward/Kovalev.

If Ward is to be some breakout fight, or huge payday, I can see tears.

Kovalev will not be the favorite when that fight rolls around.

I'm really not sure whats going on.

He's not fighting Adonis Stevenson, he's likely not gonna fight Beterbiev, he's not gonna fight Chilemba/Barrera winner, he's not gonna fight Fonfara/Cleverly winner, and there hasn't been enough time passed to trick people into having the watch him fight a guy he already knocked out again.

He's basically down to Sullivan Barrera, a fighter with travel restrictions to the US (where Kovalev is still a non-ticket seller).
          Not sure ?

In mid-July, Duva said that " we have plans in place already for Sergey for his next couple of fights ".....

So Ward fights in November, Kovalev fights in January/February.
Both fight on the same card vs. different opponents in May/June.
Then a mega collision for 3 belts in September/October 2016.

            Sounds good to me.

if the fight gets guaranteed with Ward in early 2016 kovalev is gonna WISH he had had that tuneup for the Ward battle. while i see Ward winning rather easily if kov dont get in that ring he may come into the ring rusty and he BETTER come on his A+++ game against Ward bc if not he gets broken down and stopped OR a easy wide UD

^^^ Most real assessment I've seen of a Ward, Kov fight... I completely agree that if Kov doesn't fight the best fight of his career he gets stopped in the late rounds. He has a punchers chance, but Ward is a very smart/ tough fighter. If Ward can get in 2 fights at 175, maybe one against Fonfara, and another against Gilberto Ramirez, I think Kov is in big trouble.
