No matter what you feel about Broner personally, if you are a poster that uses titles in multiple weight classes as a measure of ones historical or current standing in the sport, you should do the same with Broner.

He may be lazy and unprofessional, but his accomplishments should be judged under the same light as NSB's favorite sons.

I don't use titles ever. I do the same with Broner, DLH, PAC, mayweather.

Ray Robinson, etc. 15 vs 12 rounders, few weight classifications, few sanctioning bodies.

          Great point. All meaningless crap.

His current 140 WBA title isnt recognised. Its a 'regular' belt.

Hes a 3 weight 'champion' until the WBA upgrade him, the same way they did with Golovkin

As for what Broner did to gain the shot, he was undefeated at 140 and held the WBA's belt at 147 before ever fighting at 140. Would stand to reason that if he was able to win the title at 147 as an undersized guy, that he'd do well at 140. When he decided to move down to 140, the WBA ranked him at #2. Reasonable considering he'd recently been their 147 pound champ.
Broners title is a regular title though, therefore secondary. Care to expand on this?

What was Broners WBA rank before he faced Porter?

I was wondering about that. Thanks for clearing it up.

Are people actually counting regular titles these days?

I've done some further research into it. It was widely reported that Broner would be fighting for the vacant WBA (Regular) title, Boxingscene being included. The message that seemed to come across often was that this was the same title that Vargas robbed Khabib of, the same Regular title that noone recognised.

This makes sense as rank 2 Broner was facing rank 5 Allakhverdiev for the ****ty secondary belt, skipping out rank 3 Imam and rank 4 Di Rocco. Rank 1 Benevidez holds the interim title, making it even messier. Essentially you'd expect no2 vs no5 to be for a secondary title, especially when you consider Imam is ranked no.3.

The issue remains whether or not the WBA still recognise Garcia as their Super champion. It may seem ludicrous, but so are the rules for super championships. They don't have to be defended for 18 months, and can be extended if the regular champ refuses to 'unify'. Ward is still the WBA (Super) Super middleweight champion (its almost a joke). You can also move up a division, at least for one fight, without having to vacate it too. The current WBA ratings don't make it clear. Danny was recognised the Super Champ in July, but not in September. Me, and others such as NSB may have been wrong in thinking it was the Regular title then.

One thing that stands out though. Khabib was ranked no.10 in May, yet rose inexplicably to no.5 in June, even though he didn't fight at all in 2015. This was also the same time that Broner lost to Porter and negotiations for his next fight would have begun.

didn't Garcia vacate his belts and thus is no longer recognized as super champion?
